RATTLESNAKE HONORS CHAMPIONS

RATTLESNAKE HONORS ITS CHAMPIONS AT AN ANNUAL FEAST.

FALLON (Oct. 16) – Rattlesnake Raceway ends its year with the awards banquet. Trophies are awarded and the class champions are honored as are others receiving special awards.

After the potluck buffet everyone settled down and enjoyed the feast. Then the real desert started when the hardware began to be handed out to the drivers and special award receipents.

Before that part started LARA president Chris Lumsden explained that every class is named after someone that was a long time participant at the track but has since either stopped racing or passed on.

This year the participation in the David Banovich Mini Stocks, which used to be called the Gen-X class, was pretty slim. However Lee “Cub” Ketten was the champions followed by Kenny Crome.

Ketten’s father makes the two all the way from Round Mountain so his son, who is in high school, can race.

Usually the Jim Baglin Hobby Stock field is and has been the largest for the past two years. This year Dave Ausano is the champion after a winning season, Shane Cazel and Cody Morris were second and third.

The Sam Bradley IMCA Modified class has shown improvement all during the year and sometimes fielded almost as many cars as did the Hobby Stock division.

Zach Cail is this year’s IMCA track champion and Rookie of the Year followed by Fred White and Chris Neal. Cail is one of the young generation and will graduate from high school this next year.

Jorden “Loose Hood,” Riley was the Hobby Stock Rookie of the year while Cail not only took him the champion’s trophy and jacket but is the IMCA Rookie of the Year.

The Outlaw Karts are racing next generation where youngsters earn their spurs before graduating to cars and race on the big track. Until then they race on a small oval inside the big track.

This year the Beginner class had the largest number of drivers, which speaks well for the future of this group. Guage Felzke was both the champion and Rookie of the Year.

In Box Stock Robert McBroome was the champion and Rookie of the year. And keeping with that theme Blake Rauscher was the 250 champion and that division’s Rookie of the Year.

The Cornu Family Most Improved Driver award when to Hobby stock driver Jorden Lumsden while the Most Improved Kart Driver was Peyton Albury.

Tami Buehn got the Dennis Kirn Best Sportsmanship Award while Christian Benham earned the Kart’s Best Sportmanship honor.

The Hard Luck awards went to IMCA driver Fred White and Kart driver Jayden Hopper. And the Stephanie Benham Most Appreciated Volunteer award went to Dale Scheid for all his work with the track.

In addition to the cars and kart classes the Mad Metal Mud Drag series honored its drivers and champions.

For the second year in a row Virginia Bushek was the 4/6 Cylinder champion while Tammy Harmony was the 8 Cylinder Stock Class champion.

Cole Plummer is the Super Stock champion, Aaron Detomasi did double duty as he won both the Modified and Unlimited Class championships.

Now that the banquet is over with the association will turn its attention to completing repairs that vandals did to the track. Then they’ll begin any schedule improvements to the facility as racing will commence again around Easter weekend.
