  • AIR RACE UPDATE: MONDAY 9-11

    Reno Air Races

STEAD AIRPORT (Sept. 11) – Air Race, day one, well things were a bit quiet although some were busy qualifying their racing aircraft for the battles to come. Sitting on the ramp testing its engine was Voodoo, now the fastest piston powered, propeller driven aircraft on the planet. Although it didn’t break the record set by Rare Bear it did the fastest pass in its attempt. To set a new record the aircraft has to do four passes along a course and be at least 1% faster than the previous record holder. They almost did it but not quite still

Once again, saving the best for last, the Pro 2 class ended the two-day event. However the track crew gave the drivers a surprise when they ripped the dirt prior to the race. CARSON CITY, NV (Aug. 19) – For the second year in a row the Carson Flat Track races returned to the Fuji Park rodeo arena. And like last year the afternoon and evening shows were a blizzard of heats and main events. This year however there were a couple of challenges that had to be dealt with. One was with the arena’s sound system and while it was working next year it will be tweaked a bit. Mother Nature proved the biggest challenge as a downpour toward the end of the heat races left a very wet track. However the
