RENO, NV (AUG. 16) — Been a busy weekend. Saturday started with a fundraiser and finished with one car meet. Sunday was full with three meets so it kept everyone busy.

•• Reno Harley Davidson was a busy place in the early Saturday afternoon. The dealership was the site for the Downrider Fundraiser put on by the Confederation of Clubs, which includes many motorcycle clubs.

There were things to buy, a raffle, games for the kids as well as food to buy.

The Henchman Motorcycle Clubs was the organizer. When asked about the function Joe Orozcl said, “I’m the one that started this. This function is for down riders for the COC, Independent or Club Members of the COC.
“We raise money to help with some of your bills if you get into an accident, or the worst part if they pass away. This is for the COC community. We will sign people up here, my wife Stephanie is the Independent Rep for the Northern Nevada Confederation of Clubs. So she can sign people up on scene when I’m out with her.”

The easy ups for various groups went around the corner on the north side of the building.
Weather was great and there was a large turnout of people.
•• That afternoon Shifted Performance, located at 545 Depaoli Street in Reno, held a BBQ and Dyno Day. They dyno pulls was a friendly competition between imports and domestic cars.

There were cars lined up in front off the shop including a long line of cars across the street.

By the shop there was a cherry Oldsmobile and a beautiful 1955 Chevy.

The Chevy’s engine had been cleaned and chromed. This car was also part of Hot August Nights.
When asked about the event manager Clinton Haggard said, “It’s kind of a customer appreciation day, giving back to the community with food with burgers and hot dogs. Afterwards we’re going to have an event with cars on the Dyno.

“We had people sign up for a bit on the Dyno as it’s a friendly competition between imports and domestic. We don’t know the horsepower yet but we’re going to add them all up and see which one wins.”
Then he described the normal business the shop does.
“Our normal business we probably do more imports than domestics. We do regular maintenance, services, diagnostics, regular repair, performance parts and dyno tuning. It’s all encompassing is what we’re trying do.”

As the morning went on more and more cars filled the line across the street. Some of them will be on the Dyno a little later.

•• Reno Jeeps & Coffee had its first of the month meet on Sunday. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran.

As usually only three were there at first but usually more arrive later.
• Not far away Reno Cars & Coffee was having its first meet of the month. The location was near the Human Bean Coffee Stand close to the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.

As expected there were a variety of cars and trucks even thought the turn out was a bit lighter than normal.

One duo parked next to each other was a VW Thing and a beautifully restored Karmann Ghia. Both looked great and this reporter had a chance to talk with the owner of the Karmann Ghia, Susan Broili Kamesch.
Asked about the car she said, “This is a 1970 Karmann Ghia convertible, I bought it in the year 2000. Did a ground up restoration on it, turns out it was three cars put together. So when the guy took off the paint it was three different cars but he did a beautiful job and got it all back together.

“The hardest part was that he had it for 10 years and I couldn’t drive it. But I did drive it for the first couple of years that I had it. It was a pearl white color and I used to drive it around Reno all the time just for fun like I do now.
I do register this for events, it was in Hot August Nights but it’s not my daily but I like to drive it a lot when the weather is nice and it drives real easy.

Over on another row there were a pair of GM classics. A blue Camaro was parked beside a white Corvette and both had their hoods up.

One car that came over from across the California border was a Ferrari. Even had the hood up so one could see the top of the motor.
Asked about it owner Alex Kleissner who said, “Brought my 2014 Ferrari 458 Spider, I’ve had it about two and a half years. Had to replace both fuel injector rails this year, which was not fun, but it’s hard to say no to a car like this.

“I thought about selling it but after driving it after the fix I have to keep it. It’s still fast enough to get you a felony if you really push it. But it’s old enough to where I have about four seconds of enjoying acceleration before I get to felony territory. “

There were two more exotics. One was a blue Lamborghini that left early while the other was a McLaren that stayed.
•• There was one more car meet and that was by the Final Draught Bottles & Taps. Location was a 5318 Sparks Blvd, by the corner with Los Altos.

Opening at noon cars slowly arrived and at the end of one row there was a DJ that parked in the shade.
A second line started to grow in the area partitioned off. The Final Draught has these meets every Sunday in August. They all start at noon but after August they are discontinued until next summer.

•• This Tuesday, starting at 6:30, Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada will meet at Toro De Oro Market. Location is 588 North McCarran.
