SACHEZ, SIMINOE TOP EXIT 28 PROS

EXIT 28 MOTOCROSS PARK (Aug. 9)- Last week’s rainstorms left the crew here with a huge pond in front of the starting gate. After pumping the water out and grooming the track the facility was ready for Friday’s practice session.

Jesse Sanchez (651) wheels around Collin McHaney (68) as the start of the 250450 pro/intermediate moto.

Then on Saturday the track hosted round three of the Livfast Exit 28 series. While there was wind and a steady but light rain for part of the event the track held up for some hard, fast racing, motocross style.

For one Sparks rider it was a great evening as he won all his motos and even was first in the whip contest.

Once off the track after winning his first 250/450F pro moto Jesse Sanchez said, “It was a great race, came off the start pretty good and just held it all the way. The wind wasn’t too bad as I’m experienced riding in the wind since I live here in Nevada.”

Then he thanked his parents as well as sponsors BTL, Fly Racing, No Toil, FMF and Pro Taper for their support.

When the gate dropped on that moto Sanchez and Collin McHaney, intermediate rider, were side-by-side going into the first turn. After an outside move it was all Sanchez as he stormed off to the victory.

Back in the pack Aaron Siminoe was on a charge of his own and soon took second. However he was outgunned as he was on a 250F while Sanchez rode a more powerful 450F bike; they finished in that order.

The 125/250 pro moto was a different story as Siminoe quickly got around Eric Gillen and Jeff Simas. From that point on no one came close to catching him.

“It was fun, messed around a little and kind of checked out,” Siminoe said after the race. “I enjoyed racing with all the guys and I’m really looking forward to the second 450 moto, hopefully it’ll get rougher so my 250F can keep up with Sanchez.”

Then he thanked Pedotti family, Fly Racing, Dragon Goggles, CD Boots and Thousand Oaks Racing.

When racing started there was a pretty stiff wind followed by a steady but very light rain. In fact, unlike at most races, the water truck wasn’t really needed.

Adding spice to the intermission was a whip contest where the riders twist the bikes 90 degrees while flying through the air. Sanchez added to his winning total by taking that contest with Siminoe second and Justin Lydick third.

Asked about the contest, Sanchez said, “I went out for the whip contest at the last minute. Then I threw it down and showed what I could do.”

Then Sanchez went on to win his second 250/450 pro moto but this time Siminoe chased him through the entire race.

After winning that moto Sanchez said. “The track was awesome, got a good start and held it the whole time.”

The result was also the same in the second 125/250 pro moto with Siminoe running away with another victory. This time however he commented on how the track had changed.

“I tried to figure out the track as it changed quite a bit in that little short amount of time. Like just square-edge bumps that weren’t there before now.”

Siminoe wound up second in the whip contest ahead of Justin Lydick, who swept the Sportsman class that ran with the Schoolboy class won by Colin McHaney.

After that race Lydick said, “I had a pretty good start, rode my pace, tried to stay consistent and not make any mistakes.”

Then he thanked his parents, brother Steve Lydick and RMS for their support.

Other winners were Jeff Simas, who won the club race as well as the 20+ Intermediate winner women’s victor Cheyenne Wosick.

Not to be outdone by their elders the younger generation had some pretty good races themselves. The second 85cc Open saw a duel between winner Mikey Hillyer and Trever Tellez, who kept the pressure on the entire race.

Another close one, at least at the start was a duel between Pee Wee riders Cash Dunbar, who was able to hold off Owen Bills in their final moto.

Zade White and Sam McCord were also winners in their respective Pee Wee classes. In the 65cc divisions the winners were Zachary Larsen and Demetre Proutsos, who scored victories in two different classes.

These youngsters will be rising through the ranks and starting to challenge their elders in the coming years.

The next round of the series is slated for the weekend of September 6 and will again be a night event. Friday is for practice, from 5 to 10 p.m. with Saturday beginning with practice beginning at 2 p.m. followed by racing.

• Further east Rattlesnake Raceway also had some problems with rain but got all of its races in. Tony Taylor won the Hobby Stock main while Pete Olsen took the Sport Mod feature while Robby Grace was the Pro Stock winner.

Fred White topped the IMCA Modified field while Randy Darst was the Gen-X winner.
