SPRING MOTOCROSS RACING IS ON

Last fall SMRA pulled the plug on its fall motocross season. The Over The Hill Gang then took up the cause, thought they had a three-race series but that turned into a one-off race at Fernley.

Over the winter the Gang has been working and is joined by the Old Timer’s Chapter so racing will return.

Over the winter Gang president Layne Kolbet was able to secure use of the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track, otherwise known as the “Sandbox.” And the club also helped the Lions when they were in need.

The Over The Hill Gang will sponsor the first motocross race of the season at Fernley. Here racers are launching themselves after the gate dropped in the fall race.

The Gang will host and stage the first event on the weekend of March 7-8. And remember daylight savings time returns that Sunday morning.

Next up in the three-race series is at Exit 28 and that event is hosted by Tim O’Brien and the Livfast crew. The event happens on the weekend of March 14-15.

Then there is a week break and on the weekend of March 28-29 the annual Sandbox Grand Prix returns. This is a joint effort, and a fun race for bragging rights and a trophy, between the Gang and MRANN.

Once again motocross and desert racers will face off for a friendly team race at the Sandbox Grand Prix staged at Fernley.

Will the desert racers win or will the MX riders protect their turf and be the victory. Come on out and watch.

After a week’s break for Easter racing returns with the final round, at the Sandbox, hosted by the Old Timers Club. New president Jeff McCollum and others are helping bring the club back.

And of course on Memorial Day weekend the Gang will host its annual National event that brings riders from across the west.

Gang president Layne Kolbet, at the group’s banquet allowed that he is also working on another track that could be added to the series. It’s out of town but close enough for a possible race.

So after things looking bleak last year, Motocross racing is back on and many will be working to increase participation and bringing this type of racing back to where it was a few years ago.
