MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – FEB. 26 – MAR. 1

Once again television is ripe with various races and so is the Internet. And locally the second race of the year happens this weekend.

This weekend MRANN journeys toward Lovelock but the race area is actually about 20-miles along a good dirt road to a dry lakebed west of Toulon.

It’s the Wide Open 120 held at Blue Wing Flat, Nevada. As usual the Pee Wee riders begin the weekend on Friday when their race begins at 9:30 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by the V-Women, Mini bikes, Bombers and Vintage bikes.

On Sunday the big bikes take off at 10 a.m. and to be classified as a finisher a rider must complete the first of two loops. The area itself is a good two hour drive from Reno.

Next week the motocross season begins and on Sunday both the Old Timers and Over The Hill Gang will have a clean up day at the Fernley Lions Motocross Track.

MAVTV as usual has a host of racing programs through the weekend. On Thursday two notable shows are the Dirty 30, at noon, followed at 4p.m. by a re-air of the December 5th Geneva Supercross.

Not much on Friday although there is practice sessions from Atlanta by the three top NASCAR series.

MAVTV highlights on Saturday are a FIA World Rally Championship season review at noon followed at 4 p.m. by the Lucas Oil ASCS sprint car event.

After last week’s season opener at Daytona the top three NASCAR series get rid of their restrictor plates and go to the Atlanta Motor Speedway where handling is at a premium. So look for more of the regulars to shine in this race.

Las Vegas native Kyle Busch will again probably be on the sidelines and won’t participate in either the Xfinity or Sprint Cup races as he’s recovering from a broken leg and foot.
