OCTANE FEST AT FALLON – PART 1

Octane Fest brings to Fallon an annual celebration of all types of motorsports.

FALLON, NV (June 13) – Octane Fest is a celebration of the color, sound, horsepower, racing and other motorsport activities. It’s a two night and three daylong event, which has something for just about any fan.

has enough to satisfy almost any motorsport fan.

Things kicked off Friday night as the Top Gun Raceway held test and tune session at the dragstrip. Then in the evening the action switched to the Churchill County Fairgrounds for Monster Trucks, Freestyle Motocross and Outlaw Kart racing.

There was also a two-day event scheduled for Rattlesnake Raceway and it took a huge effort by the track crew to have that venue ready. Rains earlier in the week transformed it into a lake and thousands of gallons had to be pumped out of the oval.

But on Saturday morning, after some grading the tracks, both the big one and the small gokart one, were ready to go.

After the dust settled on the IMCA feature Joel Meyers, who lives in Santa Rosa, California said, “We started mid-pack and CT racing, Brian, Ronnie and Will prepared a great racecar and it was fun to show up and drive it. The track was smooth, took some rubber, fast and it was great.”

When the green waved on the 14-car field Zach Cail was first on point with Malen Gonzalez, Robert Miller and Jeff Olschowka right behind him.

Seven laps later Miller used an inside move to grab the point and four laps later contact spun Jeff Macedo causing the first caution.

On the restart Miller took off with Olschowka right behind him. While they battled for the lead behind them Meyers and Gonzalez were disputing third place.

The next caution came after James Thibodeaux spun in Turn 2 so all the lead Miller had built up disappeared. And Makr Skender had to make a quick pit stop to change a flat.

Eventually Meyers took over second and set his sights on Miller. Three laps from the end he made the winning pass and reached the finish ahead of Miller, Olschowka, Gonzalez and Cail.

Asked about working his way to the front Meyer said, “First I had to be patient around Jeff (Olschowka) and Malen (Gonzalez) as they’re a little be slower than us and finally when I cleared them I could reel Robert right back in. I’ll tell you I was very shocked that I was able to move around the outside of Robert Miller as he can drive so it was fun, a great race, hopefully tomorrow we can all have fun and a clean race.”

Like the IMCA division, it took three heat races to set the Hobby Stock field.

When the green waved Richard Miller was on point but three laps later slowed and stopped in Turn 3 causing the first caution. When the gree waved again Jeff Tuttle, who had just taken the lead was back on point with David Ausano and Cody Morris side-by-side for second.

Behind them Tony Taylor was picking his way through the pack as he headed toward the front. The next caution came after Tami Buehn spun.

When racing resumed, with only a few laps to go Tuttle spun out of contention bringing out another caution. When the green waved Morris took his turn on point but by now Taylor was closing in.

A few laps later, with three to go Taylor dove inside, took the point and scored the victory.

“The race was always good, started out in the back and ended up winning it,” Taylor said. “It was very hard, there are a lot of good competitors like 42c, Cody Morris, a young buy that’s very hard to beat and David Ausano, they’re both very competitive. Track was excellent, as they do a very good job here at Rattlesnake.”

Earlier in the day the Northern Nevada Outlaw Karts were center stage on their oval that is inside the big track.

It took a pair of attempts to get the 250cc race rolling but on each green flag Trey Walters and Blake Rauscher ran one and two. After a few cautions they ended up finishing in that order.

This season there are only two Box Stock competitors and Robert McBroome ran away with that main with Even Rauscher winding up second.

The biggest class, which speaks highly of this Outlaw Kart’s division’s future are the Beginners. These youngsters are earning their racing spurs and one day many of them will move up and into cars where they’ll be racing on the big track.

When the green waved Kaisen Ternora briefly held the lead until Guage Felzke swept past. After that Ternora had a brief duel with another kart that took second.

There was one caution and the field stopped so everyone could be put in their proper place. But in the end Felzke won going away.

Guage Felzke has been almost unstoppable and here is on his way to winning another Outlaw Kart Beginner's race.

Then it was time for the Monster Truck Nationals to take center stage. They first began with various things like getting big air and going over obstacles.

Rosalee Ramer, driving Wild Flower, did a heart stopping stunt with big air that almost had her going over but the truck somehow landed on all four wheels.

Rosalee Ramer in Wild Flower not only got big air but a big angle as well and somehow landed on four wheels. At 18 she's the youngest professional Monster Truck driver in the country. She was part of show at the fairgrounds on Friday and Saturday.

Thanks on the results I was sent kart #3 was listed as second but in checking Sunday’s list I think they forgot to put in the 8 so it would be 83. Thanks for the comment and I’m going to change those results.
