RACING PREVIEW – JULY 16-19

Racing preview for this week not only has local events, big news from the motocross world, but a list of what can been seen by racing fans.

This week’s racing locally includes three types of motorsports plus a variety on TV and the Internet. And there is a special heads up for a unique NASCAR race next Wednesday.

After being flooded out from the recent rains, Livfast Exit 28 rescheduled the night motorcross event to this weekend. There will be practice Friday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. then on Saturday a practice session beginning at 3 p.m. with racing to follow as soon as that’s finished.

The biggest news in the two-wheel racing world was last week’s announcement by 4-time Supercross champion Ryan Villopoto. After suffering injures in the fourth round of the FIM MXGP series he decided to retire from competition.

Locally the racing begins at 6 p.m. Saturday when Fernley 95A Speedway is in action. This week the Dwarf Cars return as well as the cars and during intermission there is a driver-fan water balloon toss.

Then at 7 p.m, at the Lassen County Fair Grounds in Susanville, the Diamond Mountain Speedway hosts its annual fair races.

On Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts its next points race, starting around 10 a.m. at Desert Park Raceway. The track is located about a quarter mile past the end of the pavement on Lemmon Valley Drive.

The fare on Television is also full of various events that should appeal to about any racing fan.

Thursday is a bit thin but there will be a re-broadcast of the K&N Pro series race on NBCSN at 3 p.m. Then on Friday at 6 p.m. Fox Sports 1 will air the ARCA race from Iowa.

On Saturday the next round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series will be shown from Millville. MAVTV will show the first motos starting at 11 a.m. then, at 8 p.m. NBCSN will show the tape delayed 2nd motos.

For those that want to see all the motos at once, but don’t mind them being a few days late, go to www.promotocross.com and they can be seen there.

NASCAR’s Xfinity race from Iowa can be seen at 1p.m. on NBC Sports followed at 5 p.m. by the Indy Car race at the same track.

Then on Sunday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series races on the oval at New Hampshire.

Wednesday, July 22 has two great racing events. At 4 p.m. CBS Sports presents the Australian V8 Supercars. If rubbin is racing, well so is judicious punting and pushing, at least in this series.

NASCAR and Dirt Track fans can come together for a special event that same evening. It’s the “Mudsummer Classic,” from Eldora.

This is NASCAR’s only dirt track race and for the past two years its been a wild show featuring the Camping World Truck Series. The fast around this bull ring is for the driver to put the right rear corner on the wall and ride it around the turns.

Fox Sports 1 and 2 will give the event coverall all day. That includes practice session plus heat races.

The broadcast for the main begins at 6 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 where the race will be shown.

The Internet will also have racing as well.

www. Fanschoice.tv has a slate of short track races on Saturday and will also have an AMA Pro Hill Climb event on Sunday. Sadly they don’t post the times for these events.

Super Bikes will be at Laguna Seca this Sunday with the first race starting at 11:30 a.m. followed at 2:30 p.m. by the second event.

However ,while not televised, these races can be watched on www.beinsortsconnect.tv. Don’t know if the broadcast will be in English or Spanish but the races can at least be seen live and I don’t know if its pay for view or not.

That’s it for this preview. Remember, get out and see some live racing this weekend and show some support for the tracks in our area.

There is nothing that compares to being at a race live.

If you enjoyed this preview, please “like,” it and share it as widely as possible. Comments are welcome.
