RACING PREVIEW: SEPT. 10-13

Racing preview for this week is a mix of local events, like oval track and desert racing plus a event for kids on bikes. And TV as well as what’s on the Internet is also covered.

This week drivers at another short track are in their stretch run plus a desert series begins its fall season. Also on tap is a special event at a local motocross track and another special event for youngsters.

While isn’t racing it is important if you have children that ride bibycles; Teresa from Teresa’s Garage Radio Show is hosting a Bicycle Safety and Awareness Fair at the Reno Town Mall, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Reno Town Mall is across the street from the Atlantis Casino and the Convention Center.

The kids attending will be eligible for prizes including some bicycles that are being given away. And they will be shown how to ride safely.

Drivers at Rattlesnake Raceway are in the stretch run so every point is valuable.

Later that day Rattlesnake Raceway, just east of downtown Fallon, hosts another of its points races with a 6 p.m. start time. Not only will the cars be there but the Outlaw Karts are racing and Mad Metal will have another of its mud drags.

MRANN swings into its fall off-road motorcycle racing with the “Ewe Wanna Ride,” event put on by the Mason Valley Dirt Squirts.

Saturday’s action begins at 9 a.m. when the Pee Wee riders take off on a 1-mile loop. The starting at 10:30 a.m. the Mini Bikes tackle a 10-mile loop and following them are the Women and Bomber divisions.

Then at 10 a.m. Sunday the big bikes get their turn on a 35-mile loop. A rider has to finish two laps to be considered a finisher while the fast guys and gals will do three laps.

This weekend Livfast Exit 38 motocross track will not be staging practice sessions. The track is being used for a mud running, feet type, event.

Over on TV Land, NBC Sports will have practice sessions from Richmond at 2 p.m. Thursday. Then, at 6 p.m., Fox Sports 2 will air a TORC off-road event.

On Friday, at 4:30 p.m. NBC Sports broadcasts the Xfinity race from Richmond. Then at 7 p.m. MAVTV starts its coverage of the World Rally from Australia.

The Sprint Cup race Saturday, starting at 4:30 p.m. is a critical one for several NASCAR drivers. They virtually have to win to get into this year’s championship chase.

For Nevada native Kyle Busch the pressure is off, even though he’ll probably race with the intention of winning. Last week at Darlington Raceway his seventh place finish locked him into this year’s Chase.

Despite missing the first 11 races this year due to injuries, Kyle Busch secured a spot in the championship chase when he finished seventh in the Southern 500.

For off-road fans CBS is going to air the Lucas Off Road Series event from Estro Beach, Mexico. It is the round that proceeded their August event at the Wild West Motorsports Park and can be seen at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Also, at 4 p.m., MAVTV brings the next part of the World Rally from Australia.

Sunday begins early, at 4:30 a.m., when the Moto GP riders face off and FOX Sports 1 will air that event. Then at 7p.m. MAVTV winds up its coverage of the World Rally from Australia.

As usual there will be some racing on the Internet as www.fanschoice.tv will have a host of different short track races on Saturday.

If you can, take the family out and support our local tracks. There is nothing that can compare to being at an event live, you’ll be glad you did.
