RATTLESNAKE RACEWAY: DTC

Rattlesnake Raceway ended its 2015 season with it annual end of the season event.

FALLON (Sept. 27) – One sign if fall is the annual Dirt Track Championships here. It’s two days of racing full shows and a driver’s combined finishes determines where they place.

After the dust settled on Saturday’s IMCA event Robert Miller said, “It is definitely a plus starting on the pole, I mean there’s not doubt about it. About halfway I had some brake issues and didn’t know if I was going to be able to hang on as I was struggling to keep a consistent line down there. It really messed me up on the restarts as I couldn’t get in the way I want so I thought, ‘I’ll just walk the dog around there and let them go inside.’ Once we got rolling we help our own.

Then he thanked his crew, especially a 17-year-old that’s a hard worker and his car owner brother and his firm, R.J. Landscaping.

Robert Miller won Saturday evening and on Sunday clinched the IMCA part of the DTC.

When the green waved in the IMCA field Miller took off with the pack in hot pursuit. A lap later there was a short caution then racing resumed.

Up front Miller had Joel Myers on his back bumper with Jeff Olschowka right behind him. Eventually Olschowka took over second.

There were six cautions during the race. But each time Miller was able to hold the lead and would extend it right after a lap or so.

The last caution took a bit longer to clean up. Seems that the rear end of Wade Lumsden’s racer rolled up spraying the interior with metal, some of which his Lumsden.

Fortunately he only suffered minor injuries in the scary accident.

On the final restart with six to go Wade Taylor took second with Malen Gonzalez giving chase and dropping Myers to fourth. They would finish in that order.

Earlier the Mini Stocks ran their main. After winning his heat race Lee Ketten ended up second behind Cody Acquistapace.

Soon after racing began there was another caution when Dennis Buehn wound up on the infield after a tangle but was able to continue. His troubles weren’t over as his car then suffered a fire caused by a rear seal failing and spraying fluid over hot brakes.

After Buehn was towed to the pits for repairs the green waved again and the field roared into Turn 1. Up front Jeff Tuttle and David Ausano had been running one-two.

Rattlesnake Raceway: Dave Ausano and Jeff Tuttle (29) battle.

Tuttle would make a small mistake exiting Turn 4 and that’s all Ausano needed to use an inside move and take the lead. Soon after that there was another race stopping incident when Michael Bartlett bounced off the way and collected the car of Dan Edgington, which lost a wheel in the incident.

After that was cleaned up, and Bartlett checked on by the medic, racing resumed with Ausano still on point.

Two more cautions came and one of them was then Rick Miller’s car blew a radiator hose creating a huge cloud of steam and leaving a trail of water around about half the track.

Then with five to go the green waved again only to have Larry Conner’s car lost a wheel and stoped the race again. Paul Shamlin was caught up in that incident when he was unable to stop in time.

In the victory celebration Ausan said, “Feels good, so far we’ve got all wind and hopefully can continue that way. The car is pretty fast so don’t think we’ll do anything to it. It was really loose out of four so I had to baby it but sometimes slower is faster.
