It’s another weekend full of events for any race fan, from live action in our area to events nationally and overseas.

The motorsport preview this week is full of racing action. In fact almost any type of fan can find something either locally, on TV or the Internet.

First of all our sponsor Reno Motor Sports is celebrating it’s 20th year in business. If you have the time, or before heading to one of the races on Saturday stop by, check out what they have and have a “Dennis Burger,” their being served after 11 a.m.

One event begins Friday with practice as the local chapter of the Old Timers hosts a round of that group’s national series. Riders will be arriving from chapters up and down California.

The site is the Fernley/Wadsworth Lion’s Club Motocross Track or “The Sandbox”, located just west of the Veteran’s Cemetary. There will be a practice session from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday.

Both Saturday and Sunday get rolling with practice sessions starting at 8 a.m. and racing will follow as soon as that’s over with. And there is the usual party with food and drink after the racing ends.

Motocross action from the Fernley/Wadsworth Motocross Track, or the Sandbox as it is known.

Livfast Exit 28 Motocross track will also be in action for those riders competing in the 775 Spring Classic.

Saturday, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. if for practice. Then things get rolling at 8 a.m. on Sunday as racing begins after some short practice sessions.

Further east Rattlesnake Raceway will be in action with the cars and Outlaw Karts. The action has a 6 p.m. start time.

South of Fallon, Top Gun Raceway will host the first two rounds of its ET and Junior Dragster series. Things start at 9:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, when there will be some 1/8th mile racing as well.

Over in TV land CBS Sports gets things rolling Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. first with British Touring Cars and followed by the Blancpain Sprint Series.

Then on Friday Fox Sports 1, starting at 1 p.m., has NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying from Bristol Motor Speedway.

Over on the Internet, www.fanschoice.tv has IMSA qualifying from Long Beach starting at 5:30 p.m. Finally, at midnight Friday, NBC Sports airs Formula One qualifying from China.

After the last two races Formula One reverts to the qualifying system they used last year.

Saturday begins on Fox Sports 1 as the network airs the Xfinity race from Bristol Motor Speedway.

This week there is a change for the Supercross series. They will race during the day starting at 11:30 a.m. on Fox.

And www.fanschoice.tv has two short track oval events that start at 3 p.m. with race one from Berlin Raceway followed by one from Magic Valley Speedway.

Then at 4 p.m. Fox Sports 2 will have the IMSA Weather Tech race from Long Beach followed at 10:30 p.m. when NBC Sports has Formula One from China.

Sunday begins at 9:30 a.m. when FOX has the NASCAR Sprint Cup event from Bristol. At 11 a.m. on CBS Sports there is the World Challenge race from Long Beach.

Finally, at 1 p.m., NBC Sports airs the Indy Car race from Long Beach.

CBS Sports comes back at 4 p.m. with FIM Motocross followed at 5 p.m. by the Bud Light San Felipe 250 and the day ends with Stadium Super Trucks.

It’s a feast of speed this weekend but if possible be sure to get out and see a live race. There is nothing like it as it is a sensory banquet of color, speed and sound.
