MOTORSPORTS PREVIEW: MAY 5 TO 8

Weather could affect local racing this weekend but we’ll have to wait and see.

This week is a bit slim as we head into May and local events could be affected by the weather, in fact some are.

Fernley 95A Speedway hosts the third annual David Richardson and Leroy Kay WSDCA Memorial Regional race. Racers as far away as Utah and other states plan to compete in this event.

Right now the event is on two evenings, both starting at 6 p.m. for the Friday and Saturday show. These little Dwarf Cars are as fast, and sometimes faster than the Modifieds.

Due to the incoming weather the Nitro Circus has been postponed. Those having tickets for Thursday can use them on Tuesday while tickets for the sold out Friday show can be used Monday.

Livfast Exit 28 should have practice sessions Saturday and Sunday but that will depend on the weather and what it does to the track.

Testa Motorsports in Gardnerville had a car wash planned for this weekend but it has been moved to May 22. The proceeds will help fund team members going to Mammoth Mountain this summer for a national motocross event.

Over on TV land NASCAR is heading for Kansas. Thursday’s Camping World Truck series practice is not being broadcast but can be seen if you go to www.nascar.com.

On Friday Fox Sports 1 has NASCAR practice and qualifying from Kansas then at 5:30 p.m. they will show the truck series event.

On the Internet www.fanschoice.tv will stream three short track oval events beginning at noon.

On Sunday CBS Sports has a good slate of racing events beginning with the Pirelli World Challenge starting at 12:30 p.m. followed by German Touring Cars at 1:30 p.m. then the Blancpain GT Sprint Series at 3:30 p.m. and ending at 5:30 p.m. with a Lucas Oil Off Road event.

Fox Sports 1, at 3 p.m., will have the Air Race World Challenge event.

And finally fanschoice tv will stream a short track race beginning at 4 p.m.

That’s it for this week. If possible, weather permitting of course, try and get out to see a live event as it’s better than watching TV.
