RUMBLE AT RATTLESNAKE

FALLON (Oct. 8) – Rumble at Rattlesnake was a two-day affair to make up for the loss of the Two-Day Shootout that 95A Speedway had scheduled.

Due to the low car count it was decided to use the format like the Dirt Track Championships use. A driver’s combined finishes both days would determine their final position and what payout they would receive.

There was also a twist to the rules so an IMCA or Pro Stock driver could take the roof of their racer off and go “topless.” And a few did that exact thing.

Rattlesnake Raceway: Topless IMCA racer.

Jeff Olschowka and a few other drivers had their IMCA racers go Topless for the Rumble.

The Hobby Stock main got off to a slow start as one car stalled and had to be pushed to the pits. When the green waved Shane Ramthun jumped into the lead and led the charge into Turn 1.

Then things came to a sudden halt when Mike Fuller’s car hit the backstretch so hard it broke one of the concrete blocks that form the retaining wall. It took some time to replace that block and Fuller did go to the hospital to be checked.

His condition wasn’t known when this article was posted.

Six more cautions slowed the pace but up front there was a bit of lead swapping with some pushing and shoving between Richard Longacre and Ramthun.

Rattlesnake Raceway: Shane Ramthun, Hobby Stock winner.

Shane Ramthun wins Saturday’s Hobby Stock main and repeated the feat on Sunday.

With two to go Ramthun used an outside to take over the lead and won the race followed by Longacre and Rick Miller.

Jim Turner led the IMCA race but was soon passed by Joel Myers. Behind him Chris Nieman was working his way to the front and finally, after passing second place Jeff Olschowka, took over the lead.

Olschowka caused one of the cautions when he slammed the backstretch wall and wound up backward on the Turn 3 wall. However after changing two tires he returned and finished fifth.

Rattlesnake Raceway: Chris Nieman, IMCA

Chris Nieman was Saturday’s IMCA winner.

Up front Nieman set a blistering pace and turned the fast lap of 15.401 seconds. There would be no catching him on this night.

Only four Pro Stocks were on hand and Mike Learn won their main followed by Gary Nevers, Mike McMordie and Rocky Boice.

Rattlesnake Raceway: Mike Learn.

Another driver who had a topless racer was Pro Stock winner Mike Learn.

Steve Singley won the Super Stock 4 main with Jesse James not far behind in second. The race began with a tangle that eliminated the cars of Suzie Schmitt and Katie Robertson.

Scott Dorie topped the five-car Dwarf Car field. Glen Sciarrani tried to make a race of it but had to settle for second ahead of Nick Winters.

There were only four Pure Stocks or Gen-X cars in the field. And two of them were doing double duty.

In the end Katie Robinson was the winner followed by Larry Robinson and Fred Kregge with Tyler Cheek coming home fourth.

Kaite Robinson won Saturday’s Pure Stock main.

Reporters Note: As of 1 p.m. Wednesday the results from Sunday were not posted on My Laps so this article is going to be short. Did want to congratulate Shane Ramthun as he’s the only class winner I know about. My apologies for this.
