RACING PREVIEW: MARCH 23 TO 26

Racing Preview for this week has a major local event plus one in Las Vegas that has a Gardnerville native competing in it. The preview also has what’s on TV as well as the Internet.

First a serious matter.

Last year’s Virginia City Grand Prix pro champion Tucker Larrieu had a bad get off last weekend and is in ICU at Renown Medical Center.

Saw him Wednesday and it appears he’ll be there through the weekend. Visiting hours are after noon and he’s in the Sierra Tower.

After that he will be moved and may spent another seek at Renown. Visitors are appreciated so hope others will take some time, visit and cheer him up.

The major even in our area is the return of the Arenacross Series after an absence of a few years. Once again the show will be inside the Livestock Events Center, the largest venue on their circuit.

Racing for the pros begins at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday but don’t know what groups will be supporting the event. After Saturday the track is altered for safety as Sunday is Amateur Day; elimination heads begin early and the final races have a noon starting time.

Next week the series moved to Sacramento but it’s only a two-day show; pros on Saturday and amateurs on Sunday.

Weather is playing havoc with the tracks in California.

The Loretta Lynn Qualifier scheduled for Oatfield has been canceled.

Both Riverfront and E Street are under water again so no practice this weekend and Prairie City is too muddy so it can’t be used.

However the VORRA season opener, now run by NorCal Rock Racing is apparently still on for Saturday the 25th at Prairie City so that should be a mud bath for everyone.

Gardnerville native Matt Buyten, who now lives in Texas, will be behind the wheel of the Metal Mulshia truck at this weekend’s Monster Truck World Finals in Las Vegas. Shows start at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Over on TV and Internet it’s another busy weekend full of racing.

On Thursday NBC Sports, at 2:30 p.m. airs NASCAR American while Fox Sports 1, at 3 p.m. has NASCAR Hub.

MAVTV has several shows starting at noon and they are, Dirty 30, Super Cup Stock Car Series, Geneva Supercross, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and Speed Sport. They all run in an afternoon long series.

Friday begins at 10:30 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 as the network airs Cup and Xfinity practice from Auto Club Speedway in Fontana and ends with Cup qualifying that afternoon.

On Saturday, at 11 a.m., www.fanschoice.tv streams American Flat Track racing from Atlanta. Later that afternoon, at 4 p.m. they stream a race fro Tucson Speedway.

Also at 11 a.m. CBS Sports has a Pirelli World Challenge race. For you Air Racing fans the next show about last year’s event airs Saturday on NBC Sports at 3 p.m. ((Had to correct the time, this one is correct.))

Also starting at noon MAVTV has a series of Lucas Oil races beginning with Drag Boats, Pro Pulling League and the Off Road Racing Series.

That’s it for this week but if you want to enjoy the excitement and wild racing of indoor motocross try and make one of the two Arenacross dates. It’s always a crazy time and be sure to bring earplugs and muffs for the youngsters.
