ARENACROSS: AMATEUR DAY AT LEC

RENO (March 26) – Arenacross is divided in two; the Pros race on Saturday or Friday if it’s a two-day show. But at every stop Sunday is reserved for amateurs and they run after the course has been altered for safety.

Sunday at the Livestock Events Center started early as each rider either qualifies in heat races for their main event or has to accomplish this in an LCQ. Like in years past there was a large group of riders so to get them all in 27 short races were scheduled although two were combined to make it 25 events.

Once the heats were finished there was time for a lunch break and track maintenance completed the first class moved to the starting gate. Since there were only eight gates riders nine to 16th rider were in a second row.

On Sunday Manuel Moreno won three different races and his total for the entire weekend was five victories.

Some riders scored multiple victories and Manuel Moreno had the best weekend of all. After winning the Supermini events Friday and Saturday he backed that up with three wins Sunday in the Super mini classes.

After winning twice in the previous nights, Gannon Lawson won twice Sunday running his total to four during the weekend.

Another winner from the first two days was Gallon Lawson, who scored a pair of victories on Sunday. Not to be outdone Preston Boespflug scored a trio of victories on Sunday.

One of the combined events was Girls 7-13 as only two of them were on hand. One of them Amanda Walsh is nationally ranked in her age group.

Amanda Walsh, a nationally ranked girls racer from Colorado competed and won on Sunday.

All in all the afternoon was a blizzard of races with very few riders going down although one of them went over a berm but was able to get up and roar to the victory.

This Sunday those amateurs going for titles in the Arenacross series will once again face off but at a much smaller venue in Sacramento. Local racers head for Fernley and the second round of this year’s spring MX series.
