RACING PREVIEW: APRIL 20 TO 23

This weeks Racing Preview has a host of events to watch both in person as well as on TV and the Internet. Now that the Easter holiday is over things are ramping up to full speed.

 

Locally the major event is a round of the Old Timers Nationals held at the Fernley/Wadsworth Lion’s Motocross track, or the Sandbox as most know it by.

Not only are the OT classes involved but there are support racers to fill out the show. Starting time is 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday with a BBQ at the end of the first day.

OTMX Neveda

The local OTMX Nevada chapter is hosting a round of their national series this weekend.

There will be three motos Saturday and two Sunday. For further information as well as an entry form please go to, www.otmxnevada.com.

Those wondering about Lovelock Speedway, their first race of the season has been postponed until May 6.

To the west the final qualifier in the Road to Mammoth series will be held Sunday at Prairie City and at 6:30 a.m. gates will open. On Saturday the practice times are 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The course at Riverfront is closed  as it’s being reshaped, but there will be practice sessions at E Street MX Park from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Finally Fernley 95A Speedway is having a poker run Saturday. There will be camping Friday night and the run starts the following day.

Switching to TV and the Internet the action begins at noon Thursday on MAVTV as they have a bunch of reruns starting with the Dirty 30 show, Super Cup Stock Car Series and three Lucas Oil events, Drag Boat Racing, Pro Pulling League and Late Model Dirt Series.

That same day at 1:30 p.m. NBC Sports has a Formula 2 race followed at 2:30 by NASCAR American. Over on Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. the network broadcasts NASCAR Race Hub.

Friday begins at 8:30 a.m. as Fox Sports 1 has a series of NASCAR practice sessions from Bristol Motorspeedway ending with Cup qualifying.

Friday on TV begins at 10 a.m. with the Xfinity series racing at Bristol then at 7 p.m. the AMA Supercross from Salt Lake City will be shown on Fox 2.

Over on the Internet, www.fanschoice.tv has a busy day of short track racing.

It all begins at 10 a.m. with a GNCC event the Steele Creek Pro ATV races. Then starting at 2 p.m. there is another from Berlin Raceway-Icebreaker.

After that, beginning at 4 p.m. three NWAAS races are streamed from Langley Speedway, Magic Valley Speedway and finally at 5 p.m. from Salina High Bank Speedway. And on Wednesdays, at 4 p.m. they will stream another race from New Berlin Raceway.

NASCAR

Fox Sports 1 gets Sunday rolling at 11 a.m. with the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup races from Bristol Motor Speedway. It’s race described as rocket ships in a bathtub as the track is only 1/2 mile in length.

Indy Car.

Indy Cars are on a road course this weekend as they race at Barber Motorsports Park.

Then at 12:30 p.m. NBC Sports has the Indy Car race from Barber Motorsports Park followed at 2:30 p.m. on Fox Sports 1 with the NHRA event from Houston.

NBC sports also winds up the afternoon, starting at 3 p.m. with a trio of races, Best in the Desert, then Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and finally a Red Bull Air Race event.

That’s it for this week. If possible do get out to a live event as that supports not only the racers but the tracks and series they are competing in.

There is nothing like the color, speed and excitement of being there live.
