RACING PREVIEW: JUNE 29 TO JULY 2

Well here we go, another long holiday weekend.

RENO (June 29) – This week’s Racing Preview has one more day added to it due to the July 4th holiday, which is on Tuesday. Still, the schedule is full of live, televised or streamed events during most of the weekend.

Lovelock Speedway.

Locally Lovelock Speedway is hosting another of its points races Saturday starting at 7 p.m. Then on Sunday the Northern Nevada Kart Club hosts its next race at Desert Park Raceway and the action should get going around 9 a.m.

For local motocross fans there is big news from over the hill in the Marysville, Calif. area. After being shut down by flooding Riverfront is opening Saturday evening as they’ll have practice from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a free BBQ.

If riders save their wristbands they get a discount at E Street MX Park for the weekend practice session.

E Street has practice Saturday and Sunday running from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. and the back track will also be open. Prairie City also has practice Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

This week NASCAR returns to its spiritual home, Daytona Beach, Florida for the traditional 4th of July races even if they aren’t run on the holiday.

NBC Sports gets the weekend started in TV Land starting at 11 a.m. as they air practice sessions from Daytona Motor Speedway.

Friday begins, still on NBC Sports as the network airs qualifying for the Xfinity and NASCAR Cup racers. Then at 3 p.m. they broadcast the NASCAR America program.

Finally at 4:30 p.m. the network airs the Xfinity race from Daytona.

This week the Pro Motocross series, which is at the Red Bud course is split between two days. On Saturday, starting at 10 p.m. MAVTV has live coverage of the first motos and will repeat the show at 1 p.m.

Not to be left out www.fanschoice.tv has a series of short track events beginning at 3:30 p.m. from Berlin Raceway followed by races from Langley Speedway, Magic Valley and finally Tucson Speedway.

And at 4:30 p.m. NBC has the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup race from Daytona. It just might be Dale Earnhardt Jr’s final race at the speedway.

Sunday begins at 7 a.m. on Fox Sports 1 as the network begins showing the IMSA Weathertech sports car race; Six Hours at the Glen. The event is on the road course at Watkins Glen New York and after showing the first part the coverage switches over to Fox Sports 2.

Then at noon NBC Sports has a delayed showing of the second Pro Motocross motos.

Not to be left out CBS Sports has a series of events they’ll be showing starting at 10 a.m. with the FIM MX2 race followed at 11 by the FIM MXGP race from Portugal.

They finished the afternoon, starting at 3 p.m. with a German Touring Car event followed at 5 p.m. by a Lucas Oil Off Road series event.

On Tuesday, July 4th two tracks not only have racing but fireworks as well.

To the east Rattlesnake Raceway in Fallon has Outlaw Karts and Cars racing as well as the town’s fireworks display at dusk. Racing on the big track is slated to begin at 6 p.m.

North of Reno in Susanville, California the Diamond Mountain Speedway will have cars racing as well as a fireworks display. I believe things get going around 7 p.m. but it could start earlier.

For those outside of the area remember all times listed are Pacific Daylight as we’re in the western United States.

If you have a chance be sure to attend a live racing event sometime during this holiday time. While TV is good there is nothing like being at a short track for fun, excitement and speed.

Not only is this good family entertainment but you also help support both the track and your favorite drivers.
