RACING PREVIEW – JULY 30-AUG 1

Racing preview for this week has a wide variety of events, local as well as on TV and the Internet. Something for almost any race fan.

This weekend Lovelock Speedway joins the town as it celebrates Frontier Days. There’s racing both Friday and Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m., and if the car counts make the minimum, extra money for the winners.

As usual there will be IMCA Modifieds, 360 Winged Sprint Cars and Hobby Stocks racing each night.

American Valley Speedway in Quincy, Calif., starting at 7 p.m. Saturday hosts the next event in its points season.

For the two-wheel set there will be practice sessions at the Livfast Exit 28 track, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Those wishing to try a new track can head over the hill to the area around Shingle Springs as El DoradoMX hosts a free ride day Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., for its new track.

On TV things begin Thursday at 9 a.m. with a rebroadcast of the FIM Motocross event on CBSSN followed at 11 a.m. by the World Rally of Finland on MAVTV. Then at 8 p.m. NBS Sports airs a Global Rallycross event.

On Friday MAVTV, at 9 a.m. continues its coverage for the Rally of Finland. There are also practice and qualifying sessions from Ponoco where NASCAR and ARCA will be visiting this week.

Fox Sports 1 kicks off Saturday, at 10 a.m., with the Camping World Truck series at Ponoco followed at noon by the ARCA race at the same track. Then at 5 p.m. NBC Sports broadcast the Xfinity race from Iowa.

Sunday is a busy day as fans have to choose between two major events.

Starting at 10:30 a.m. NBC Sports has the Sprint Cup event from Ponoco and at the same time CNBC will broadcast the Indy Car race from Mid-Ohio.

 

NASCAR Sprint Cup - Kyle Busch makes it four in a row.

After winning the last four Sprint Cup events, Las Vegas native Kyle Busch is closing in to qualify for this year’s chase. He’s within 23 points of being in the top 30 and has all of August to improve his position.

Then at 6 p.m. ESPN 2 shows the tape delayed final rounds at the NHRA Mellow Yellow race at Sonoma.

 

On the Internet, starting Saturday at 10 a.m., short track fans will be entertained as www.fanschoice.tv begins a series of events from these bullrings.

Those that missed last week’s AMA Pro Motocross can see it on www.promotocross.com.

That’s it for this weekend. If possible be sure to get out and support one of our local tracks. If you go to Lovelock get there early and enjoy the festivities at the Court House and maybe even the BBQ they have.

There is nothing like being at an actual race to experience the sound, color and excitement of these events.
