  • PROMOTOR CANCELS 2014 ARENOCROSS

    In the spring of 2013 the Amsoil Arenacross didn’t have Reno on its schedule as the series pulled back to the eastern part of the country. In fact Denver was the furthest west it came that year.   Seeing an opportunity promoter Robert Hansen decided the time was right to breath new life into his ArenOcross event that he created over 20-years ago.   • NIEMAN WINS QUINCY FAIR RACE

    Quincy, CA (Aug. 17) – American Valley Speedway hosted its annual Fair Races on Sunday. It’s part of the Plumas County Fair, an event that for some marks the end of summer as school is starting soon.   As usual there was a good field of IMCA Modifieds as well as Hobby Stocks and Mini Stocks.   • I-80 CHALLENGE RAMPS UP IMCA RACING

    LOVELOCK — During the Frontier Days races this reporter had a chance to interview the series promoter Mike Scott, who is also the president of the Winnemucca Regional Raceway.     STEAD (Aug. 16) – Once a year the Northern Nevada Kart Club honors one of its founders, the later Rick Jerome, with the annual night race. While most of the season is run in daylight this event begins in the late afternoon and ends under the lights.   To celebrate this once a year happening many racers festoon their karts with lights, in the wheels, on the trim and one even had headlights.     EXIT 28 MOTOCROSS PARK (Aug. 9)- Last week’s rainstorms left the crew here with a huge pond in front of the starting gate. After pumping the water out and grooming the track the facility was ready for Friday’s practice session.   Then on Saturday the track hosted round three of the Livfast Exit 28 series. While there was wind and a steady but light rain for part of the event the track held up for some hard, fast racing, motocross style.   • Racing Calendar for the Week of August 16/17

    • This week’s racing calendar features a unique form of motorsport, Trials. It’s not about speed but the rider’s control as they negotiate various obstacles.   The goal is earning the least amount of penalty points when a rider completes what ever course they are on. Put a foot on the ground or get stopped and a point is added, so the one with the lowest points is the winner. The Boreal Ridge Trials will be staged at the Boreal Ski Resort, just west of Donner Summit on I-80. Beginners and vintage bikes competing on Saturday starting at 10 a.m.

    LOVELOCK (Aug 1-2)- The Frontier Day races at the Lovelock Speedway can be wild affairs.
