    When it’s Memorial Day weekend its also time for vet racers to grab their bikes and visit Northwest Nevada. The OTHG (Over The Hill Gang) Nationals second round of the series was held at the Fernley Lions Club’s Motocross track in Fernley. It’s a Memorial Day weekend tradition that draws local riders as well as those in California chapters. Layne Kolbet, president of the hosting Reno chapter said there were 266 veteran riders on hand.     The biggest racing weekend of the year is upon us and almost every professional series will be in action. Racing preview for this weekend has a variety of events to see or watch. Our region will see a trio of two-day shows in three very different racing disciplines. Down in Hawthorne the Valley Off Road Association (VORRA) has a 225-mile desert race. Friday will be check-in with an additional check-in Saturday along with pre-running the course and the race itself will be on Sunday.     This time the weather gods once again smiles on the Northern Nevada Kart Club. STEAD (May 22) – NNKC’s (Northern Nevada Kart Club) first race of the season was a rain out but today the club made it up. Desert Park Raceway was once again home to the sounds of karts tearing around the track. Saving the best for last the combined Sr/Sumo LO206 race had the closest finish for the day. Motorsport Preview for this weekend is another buffet that’s large enough to satisfy any fan, not matter what their hunger is for racing.     Despite Mother Nature playing tricks all the races were able to be completed. QUINCY (May 14) – American Valley Speedway staged the first of its $1,000 to win races for the IMCA Modifieds this weekend.     On a weekend where weather canceled races both here and in California, one track was able to get at least part of its show in. FERNLEY (May 6) – 95A Speedway honored two drivers lost four years ago with the 3rd Annual Richardson-Kay Dwarf Classic this weekend. Not only does the event honor both David Richardson and Leroy Kay but the event is a Western States Dwarf Car Association Regional. The race looked to be even bigger than last year.     Once again an annual rite of spring has happened as racers converged on the Comstock. VIRGINIA CITY (April 30) – The 45th annual Virginia City Grand Prix is a sure sign of spring in Northwest Nevada. The Comstock Classic is a two-day affair and attracts riders from across the west.
