    GUMBALL 3000 RALLY BEINGS EXOTIC CARS AND SOME START TO RENO.   Reno (Thursday, May 28)) — Even though it was a bit delayed the Gumball 3000 Rally paid Reno a brief visit Wednesday. The rally itself was created in 1999 by British entrepreneur Maximillion Cooper and is an international charity featuring stars from entertainment and the sporting world. After starting in Europe it has grown to a world hopping event. This year the Rally runs from May 23rd through May 30th and covers two continents.   • THIS WEEKEND’S RACING – MAY 28-31

    This weekend’s racing will be a little less frantic that it was on Memorial Day Sunday. But there still is a pretty good variety for fans to choose from.   This afternoon there is a special event for youngsters. The AC/DC Bike Camp has demonstration rides at the Double Diamond Athletic Club.     THE ANNUAL OTHG NATIONALS INVADE THE SANDBOX AT FERNLEY FERNLEY (May 24) – The annual OTHG Nationals at the Sandbox or Fernley Lions Motocross track is a sure sign it’s Memorial Day weekend and signals the start of summer. The local Over The Hill Gang chapter has been staging this race for many years. Beautiful weather set the stage as 209 riders were ready to race as well 50 support racers on Saturday and a few more than that on Sunday.   • 95A SPEEDWAY – OLSCHOWKA WINS

    At 95A Speedway track honors veterans that have given the ultimate sacrifice. Then the racing program began for the night. FERNLEY (May 23) – The 95A Speedway began Saturday evenings show with race cars parked on the front straight to honor veterans that either gave their lives for our country or have passed on. Then the cars did a couple of parade laps to put an exclamation point on the ceremony.   After the IMCA feature ended, winner Jeff Olschowka said, ” The race was awesome man, I had no idea where anybody was at as I was just cruisin’.

  • THIS WEEK’S RACING – MAY 21-24

    This week’s racing has something for just about any type of racing fan. The biggest event in our area this weekend is the second round of the Over The Hill Gang Nationals hosted by the Reno chapter. Two days of racing, starting around 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the Fernley Lions Motocross or the Sandbox as it’s also known. And there will be the traditional BBQ after the races on Saturday.     RATTLESNAKE – GOETZ TOPS IMCA AS TRACK HONORS ARMED FORCES DAY. FALLON (May 16) – Rattlesnake Raceway’s latest round featured hard racing, kid’s rides and the track paid tribute to both active military and veterans on Armed Forces Day. In fact the night began with an Armed Forces Day salute where all the cars and Outlaw Karts were on the front straight.   • NNKC – HARD RACING, CLOSE FINISHES

    NNKC ROUND FEATURES MUCH HARD RACING AND SOME VERY CLOSE FINISHES STEAD (May 17) – The latest round for the Nevada Kart Club was run Sunday at Desert Park Raceway. Despite the threat of rain the “hurry up,” schedule allowed all the heats and races to be completed by early in the afternoon.       RACER HONORS CANCER VICTIMS, DEDICATES SEASON TO THEM FERNLEY (May 9) – An IMCA driver is honoring cancer victims this season. Steve Evenson has chosen another number for his car, a new wrap on it and is dedicating this season to a person that lost her life to cancer earlier this year. “This past off season from racing I was really captivated by the story of Lauren Hill, the basketball player from Mt.       DWARF CARS REGIONAL HONORS FALLEN DRIVERS   FERNLEY (May 1-2) – 95A Speedway hosted the annual Western States Dwarf Car Regional this weekend. Once again the race honored the memory of Dave Richardson and Leroy Kay, who both perished in a wreck racing accident two years ago. The event is two evenings of hard racing and some strong emotions.
