  • MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – FEB. 26 – MAR. 1

    Once again television is ripe with various races and so is the Internet. And locally the second race of the year happens this weekend. This weekend MRANN journeys toward Lovelock but the race area is actually about 20-miles along a good dirt road to a dry lakebed west of Toulon.   It’s the Wide Open 120 held at Blue Wing Flat, Nevada. As usual the Pee Wee riders begin the weekend on Friday when their race begins at 9:30 a.m. followed at 11 a.m. by the V-Women, Mini bikes, Bombers and Vintage bikes.   • SPRING MOTOCROSS RACING IS ON

    Last fall SMRA pulled the plug on its fall motocross season. The Over The Hill Gang then took up the cause, thought they had a three-race series but that turned into a one-off race at Fernley. Over the winter the Gang has been working and is joined by the Old Timer’s Chapter so racing will return. Over the winter Gang president Layne Kolbet was able to secure use of the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track, otherwise known as the “Sandbox.” And the club also helped the Lions when they were in need.   The Gang will host and stage the first

  • TERESA’S GARAGE ON THE RADIO

    RENO (Feb. 17) — It not often a child’s dreams come true.     Sparks (Feb. 21) – Burg’s Victorian Bar was jumping Saturday night as Reno’s chapter of the Over The Hill Gang met to celebrate last season, honor its champions and announce plans for this coming season.   After watching the latest Supercross round everyone had a nice dinner than settled down for the awards.   Once special award is named for the late Harry Trainor, who was respected by his peers and always helped the club.   • MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – FEB. 19-22

    It’s a big week for racing on TV as three major touring series begin their year while another stages the second round of its season. So TV will be crammed with action this weekend. Last Sunday was qualifying for the Great American Race, the 57th running of the Daytona 500 but only the front row was set. On Thursday the rest of the 43 grid spots will be filled with the two Budweiser Dual 150 races.   Those on the inside row race in one event while the rest on the outside row from qualifying also get their chance.   • DEAD HORSE STARTS AREA RACING

    Nightingale ( Feb. 15) – The Trail Blazers motorcycle club hosted the first race in our region for 2015. It traditionally not only opens racing in our region but starts MRANN’s season as well. This year the name is the Dead Horse 95.5 and it was the 17th annual Hare and Hound race. When the dust settle a veteran hot shoe, one that suffered significant injuries less than two years ago, showed that’s he’s healed and still has the speed needed to win races.     Racing returns to this area as MRANN stages it’s first event of the season this weekend. The action begins at 10 a.m. when the Pee Wees start followed by the Saturday Women and Mini Bikes.   • DIRT TRICKS PLANS FOR GROWTH

    MINDEN, NV (Feb. 6)– Dirt Tricks is like many specialty shops and businesses that supply or build quality parts for racers. And the Minden based company’s forte is manufacturing top of the line, virtually indestructible sprockets for motorcycles. A sprocket is a critical component that connects the chain to the wheel, as both are the driveline.   • DAKAR RALLY – TRIP OF A LIFETIME

    SPARKS (Jan. 29) — Curt Chapman, a Virginia Highlands resident, took a very special trip in January where he rode a motorcycle and chased the 2015 Dakar Rally across South America.
