  • 4TH ANNUAL SANDBOX GRAND PRIX

    Fernley (March 29) — Four years ago MRANN and the local OTHG combined forces for the initial Sandbox Grand Prix. It’s a day full of motocross action on an 2.5 mile long course that ends with a team race. There are no points, money only bragging rights and a trophy. And its become one of the most anticipated fun events of the year. And once again the venue was the Sandbox or the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   • MILLER TOPS 95A SEASON OPENER

    Fernley (March 28) – The speedway here opened its season with an afternoon race this weekend. While some classes were down on cars the IMCA group fielded 22 cars for this heat races and main events. “The race was great even though the track was dusty.   • RACING PREVIEW – MARCH 19-22

    This week there is a traditional hybrid race featuring a cross between motocross and desert racing. It’s the 4th Annual Sandbox Grand Prix staged at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   Saturday’s action begins at 12:30 a.m. with a race combining Women, 65cc and 100cc plus Vintage and Bomber bikes. Then the Pee Wees take to the track followed at 2:30 p.m. with a 90-minute team race for the Men, Women and Bombers.   • OFF ROAD AND MOTORSPORT SHOW

    RENO (March 22) – Each spring Al Lockett hosts a show that combines almost everything one that loves the outdoors could ask for. Everything from boats, landscaping, recreation and a whole lot more. But part of the show is devoted to both off-road and motorsports, which was a bit light this time around.   • MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – MARCH 19-22

    With the Sandbox Grand Prix coming up motorcycle riders have a chance to tune up for this fun race at the end of the month. This Saturday and Sunday the Old Timers Motorcycle Club is hosting practice sessions, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., at the Fernley Lion’s Motocross Track.   The same venue the Sandbox will be held at on March 28/29.   • RACERS RIP AT EXIT 28

    Exit 28 – (March 15) A good field of riders showed up at the LivFast Exit 28 motocross track to compete in the second round of the Spring into Action series. Although the winds were up the racing was as hot and hard as ever. And one veteran showed up to help support the series.   • MOTORSPORT PREVIEW – MARCH 12-15

    Now that the season’s first motocross race is in the books riders are looking forward to the second round at the Livfast Exit 28 track, located east of Sparks. There will be practice from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday then short sessions Sunday morning with a 9 a.m. start to the first motos. The track is being worked on and watered all this week so the dirt should be great.   • MX ROCKS THE SANDBOX

    Fernley (March 8) — Motocross is back! Last fall there was only one race after the plug was pulled on the fall series. Over the winter local Over the Hill Gang members rolled up their sleeves, secured use of the Fernley Lion’s Motocross track and started helping the Old Timers chapter come back to life.     This weekend motocross returns to our area. Over the winter two clubs and a track combined forces to ensure it would continue to be part of this area. The first race is this Sunday’s staged by the local Over The Hill Gang chapter with a 9 a.m. launch to the first moto. There will be a practice session Saturday for riders to shake the cobwebs off and get back into their groove.     Blue Wing Flag (March 1) – MRANN journeyed about 25 miles west of Toulon beside a not too dry lake for it’s second race of the season. The Wide Open 120 was the combined effort by the Cheaters and Rimbenders Motorcycle Clubs.
