  • NORTHERN NEVADA KART CLUB AWARDS BANQUET

    RENO, NV (January 13) — The Northern Nevada Kart Club gathered at the GSR on Saturday to honor its 2023 champions and hand out special awards. This time there were 50 more in attendance and the membership has grown over the past year. This past year one NNKC member succumbed to medical issues. When the meeting started MC Kelsey Nelson asked for a moment silence to honor Steve Manubi. He is a former racer whose kids are still racing and his presence will be missed.     STEAD, NV (April 3, 2022) — Desert Park Raceway echoed with the sounds of racing as the Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) began it’s 2022 season. The turn out was good and Mother Nature cooperated with mild spring weather.  The Kid Kart division got the honor of starting the season. This a non-competitive class so these youngest drivers are listed when the finish a race.  Many times just staying on the track is a great accomplishment.     SPARKS, NV (NOV. 20) — After a pretty good 2021 season, despite the summer smoke that caused one race to be moved, the Northern Nevada Kart Club celebrated the end with the annual awards banquet. It was held at the Coconut Bowl in Sparks.  Raffle tickets were sold and people put them into small cups by the things they might want to win. And there was a bunch of them.   • DESERT PARK RACEWAY: NNKC ROUND 8

    The NNKC season is in the stretch run, points are tight in some classes and after this race there is only one left to decided championships.   STEAD (Sept. 10) – Desert Park Raceway was alive with kart racing on this Saturday as around 40 drivers, some from California, turned up to challenge the course. Unfortunately the F-80 shifter drivers decided not to compete so that class would not be on the track but should return for the final race of the season.     After last week’s rains washed out all but one event this week promises good racing weather. Racing preview for this week has a banquet of different events for almost any racing fan. Locally Rattlesnake Raceway will be dark this Saturday due to a national shooting match at the gun club. The track and club share a hill and usually alternate weekends.     Another weekend is ahead of us with another buffet of racing events. This week’s Motorsport Preview is another mixed bag of events that includes a special one in our area. This big event will be at Fernley 95A Speedway as the track hosts a double header with the BCRA Midgets and the Nevada Pro Stock Association joining the regular classes. The last NPSA winner Robert Miller should again be in B.J. Pearson’s Nuclear Banana car. If he also races his IMCA modified he’ll be going for his 100th victory in that class.     This week there is racing live, on TV and the Internet. Racing preview for this week has a mix of events for both the two-wheel and oval track fans. Once again there will be no practice at the Livfast Exit 28 motocross track as they are preparing for their next race. Fernley 95A Speedway will host its second race of the season Saturday with a 2 p.m. start time. All the car classes will be in action on the oval. Motocross racers competing in the 775 Spring Classic Series will head for Winnemucca for the third round of their series.

      A sure sign that spring is here is the annual show by Al Lockett. RENO (March 19/20) – Lockett’s Motor Sport Expo is part of his annual spring show highlighting many recreation areas including boats, landscaping, fishing and RV’s. On the motor sport side there are off-road related clubs, shops and other displays more focused on racing. One booth is from the Off Road Hall of Fame based in the National Auto Museum.     Racing is really heating up as series are getting started both nationally and internationally week. Racing preview for this week has local happenings that lead into the new season, which starts next week. Out in the Fallon area two tracks have having test-and-tune sessions. South of town, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Top Gun Raceway has testing for drag racers.         NNKC awards banquet is an annual gathering where the club ends its season and begins to look forward to the new season. RENO (Nov. 14) – The Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) gathered together to honor its champions, trophy winners and special people that helped this past season. The location was the Grand Sierra Hotel and Casino for this festive occasion. The highest honor the club awards is Karter of the Year and the winner gets to keep the trophy for a year.     NNKC ended its season honoring one of its own as well as setting championships for a few classes. STEAD (Oct. 3) – Every year the Northern Nevada Kart Club (NNKC) honors one of its founders with a memorial night race.
