NORTHERN NEVADA KART CLUB STARTS 2026 SEASON

STEAD, NV (June 21) — The Northern Nevada Kart Club started its 2026 season this Father’s Day weekend. During the day a pair of racing daughters, whose fathers race, gave their dads a gift when they won their respective main events.

It was also the first race weekend on the newly paved and configured track at Desert Park Raceway, the club’s home track. Now they have a much longer front straight.

As is traditional the Kid Kart class got the mains going. These are the youngest racers that are earning their spurs. Jackson Bolton won the main followed by Gwen Wright, Trevor Anderline and Rogert Huet,

Junior 1 Rookie winner Paisley Purdy.

The next step up the racing ladder is Junior 1 Rookie. These young racers have graduated from the Kid Kart Division and getting used to more powerful karts.

Paisley Purdy, who has a racing father, won that main. Coming home second was Brooklynn Knight, who set the fastest lap of 1:08:202, and third place Jace Hawkins.

In the Junior 1 main winner Bryce Holden (2) was chased by Owen Schneider.

Junior 1 is the next class for young racers. This main was won by Bryce Holdon. The runner up was Owen Schneider, who had the fastest lap at 1:03:508 and third place Jesse Shriver.

When the KA100/TAG main began Douglas Stewart was on point. With Heavyn Hill giving chase. Leading the second group, the TAG racers, Kiptn Bocchi and Cole Harris.

As the laps wound down Stewart was on point but Stevie-Ray Rosario, who set fast lap at 57:088 was giving chase. They finished in that order with Phoenix Ciociari ending up third while Harris and Bocchi finished fourth and fifth.

Nick Purdy, who also races sprint cars, won the Pro 4-Cycle main.

Moving up the next main was the Pro 4-Cycle main. On the green Nick Purdy, who also heads the Sierra Nevada Sprint Cars, set fast lap at 1:01:344 and scored the victory. Raymond Smithson was second ahead of Jeremy Clark. 

Finally it was time for the fastest class, the 125 Shifters. It started as a close race between Mike Glover, Zeke Corson and Jason Kaila.

At the finish Kaila took the victory just two hundreds of a second ahead Corson, who set fast lap at 51:520, and he ended up only one hundred of a second ahead of third place Glover.

Around this time, due to the hour, reduced the remaining mains from 18 to14 laps.

Now that he’s advanced into Junior 2, Kayden Williams started the season with a victory.

Junior 2 is the last youth class, these racers are working up to the adult groups. On the green17 racers took off and up front Kayden Williams left everyone in his wake.

There was a long battle for second, taken by Luka Rommeck. Third through fifth had three drivers only separated by tenths of a second and they were Brock Perry, Kipton Bocchi and Owen Hansen. Sixth place Oliver Merz set fast lap at 1:01:428.

The Shifter 80 main was won by Sky Corson.

Shifter 80 is a class that once was large, disappeared and has been reborn. On the green Sky Corson, who has a racing father, took off and left everyone. At the end runner up Ben Fisher set fast lap at 55:933, while Kevin Jerome was third.

One of the largest classes 16 Masters drivers took the green.

When the Masters main began 16 racers took the green.

Dan Merz won the Master’s main.

Up front Don Merz was on a mission and set fast lap at 1:03:167 on his way to victory. Josh Pratere second with Rob Amster third.

The Senior Class got the honor of ending the season opening event. On the green 23 racers headed toward Turn 1.

The largest class was the Seniors. Here 23 racers head for the green flag.

Up front Brooks Anderline was on point and chase by Joseph Huet. Soon Manvel Avanesian, who set fast time of 1:01:711 made it into a three-way duel for the lead.

There was a bit of a scramble but in the end Joseph Huet claimed the victory. Behind him Tyler Coffman ended up second about a tenth of a second ahead of third place Landen Warren.

There will be three races in July with a double header on the 11th and 12th then a race at the end of the month. Should be an interesting summer for these kart racers.

This Tuesday Trucks & Tacos meets at La Fonda on Neil Road.

• On Tuesday, starting at 6:30, Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada will meet at La Fonda. Location is 4385 Neil Road.

Dessert in the Desert meets at Bully’s in Carson City.

• That same night, from 5 until 7 p.m., Dessert in the Desert will meet at Bully’s in Carson City.

• There are three things happening on Wednesday.

Wednesday is Bike Night at PJ&CO.
  • If you want good food, drink and want to see some great looking bikes, PJ&CO on Wells has Bike Night. Starts around 5 p.m. and location is north of the round about.
Wednesday is the weekly Cruise In at the Sparks A&W
  • That same night, also starting around 5 p.m., the Sparks A&W has its weekly Cruise Night. Location is 1311 Baring, across from Reed High School.
Wednesday is Bike Night at Crazy D’s Hot Chicken.
  • Finally for bike fans Crazy D’s Hot Chicken, starting at 6:30 has its Bike Night. Location is 3652 South Virginia in Reno.
