    RENO, NV (Jan. 19) – VORRA, Valley Off Road Racing Association, back in the day was a popular off road series. Spring and fall they would run short track races at Prairie City in California then move to Northern Nevada for three or four desert races each summer. A few years ago David Cole, who owns Hammer King, the group that owns and runs the Ultra 4 series, bought VORRA and made it part of the Norcal Rock Racing series, which stages events in California as well as one at the Wild West Motorsports Park.     VORRA spent the weekend at Wild West and Sunday was an action packed day of racing. Mustang (Sept. 4) – The Valley Off Road Racing Association staged its final Nevada race this season on Sunday. Once again it was at the Wild West Motorsports Park and attracted local drivers as well as from California and Oregon.     Racing preview for this week is a buffet of different types of racing, live, on TV and the Internet. There is a varied menu for racing fans in this area with three different live events to fill the weekend. On Saturday afternoon the Northern Nevada Kart will bring down the curtain on their season with the annual night race at Desert Park Raceway. Practice begins around 4 p.m. and after qualifying racing will begin as they roar into the night. Any championships that are up for grabs will be decided by the time the final checkered flag waves.     Fallon 250 gallery is made up of just some of the photographs I didn’t use in the article about the race. This year the race was divided into two parts; VORRA’s classes started early in the morning and raced into the daylight and dust. A few hours later the Unlimiteds from the ULTRA4 series launched and raced into the night. This arrangement allowed the Ultra4 series to use this race as a west coast regional.       Fallon 250 was very different as two series combined forces to stage a day into night desert racing event. SALT WELLS (Aug. 29) – This year’s Fallon 250, the last desert race on VORRA’s (Valley Off Road Racing Association) calendar, was a bit different. This time the event was a western regional for Ultra4 series and drivers could use it to qualify for their nationals in October. As a result, 50 Unlimiteds showed up plus around 70 for VORRA.   • RACING PREVIEW – AUGUST 27-30

    Racing preview for this weekend is again a menu of varied motosport events both in our region, on TV and the Internet. This weekend Fallon is the site of two very different events. The biggest is probably the VORRA/Ultra 4 Regional race known as the Fallon 250 and the pit area is east of Fallon around Salt Wells. Registration is on Friday, at Stockman’s Casino from 1 to 5 p.m. and competitors can inspect the course but at their own risk. Then at 6 a.m. Saturday production classes, 9, 11 and Full Metal start with a time limit of 9-hours.

  • THIS WEEK’S RACING – MAY 21-24

    This week’s racing has something for just about any type of racing fan. The biggest event in our area this weekend is the second round of the Over The Hill Gang Nationals hosted by the Reno chapter. Two days of racing, starting around 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, at the Fernley Lions Motocross or the Sandbox as it’s also known. And there will be the traditional BBQ after the races on Saturday.
