END OF SUMMER CAR MEETS

RENO, NV (Sept. 21) — This weekend car groups celebrated the end of summer with a weekend full of events.  Great weather set the stage for all of them.

• Saturday began with the Impala Car Club hosting the 5th Annual Show to help Forever 14. The site was the Sun Valley Community Center.

Kevin Bland is the Impalas Car Club president. Here he holding one of the many awards given out.

Impalas Car Club president Kevin Bland said, “It’s great, couldn’t ask for a better turn out. I think we’ve over 100 cars to help raise money for the cause we’re doing this for, which is teen suicide prevention.

Unlike many events this car meet has a serious side and helps an organization doing good work.

When asked about this Bland said, “This is our fourth year doing it with Forever14. It is a big issue as we have a lot of teen suicide in Washoe County itself and the media doesn’t really let you know.

Forever 14 had a display of young people that have been lost. There efforts are to help these folks before its too late.

“Karen Stenvoid, who runs Foerever14, had a son that took his own life. So she started this non-profit raise awareness for teens so it says there is another way through life than just taking your own. I think it’s really hit home for a lot of us in general. For us it’s raising money and doing it for a great cause.

Those wishing to help or to learn more about the organization can contact them at, www.forever14.org.

Several Impalas were parked close to the club’s tent.

Over by where the Impala Car Club had its tent there were several Impala’s parked and on display.

One of the rows at the meet.

Looking across the field there were at over five rows of cars. And all types were present, from cars, vans and trucks.

The Old Slammers Car Club was also present and won an award.

The Old Slammers Car Club was present and was one of the award winners.

Besides the cars there were also a bunch of chromed bicycles on display.

In addition to cars there were several bicycles that were chromed, polished and on display. All in all it was a large showing and has been growing over the years.

• That afternoon was the season’s final Cars & Cream cruise-in hosted by Handel’s Ice Cream. Location was the parking area at Summit by the Starbucks.

Handel’s booth was giving out swag and discount coupons.

The guys at the Handel’s booth were handing out swag as well as discount coupons for ice cream.

A Nissen and Lamborghini were parked side by side.

There were various cars as well as some trucks. One combination as a Nissan NSX parked right next to a Lamborghini. Both cars were painted red and drew their share of spectators.

One car had a great paint job as well as the Impossible Media logo on its sides. The owner is Justin Impossible, who with a laugh explained that is his actual name.

Justin Impossible, yes that is his real name, stands by his Toyota Supra.

Asked about his occupation he said, “I’ve always run social media ever since My Space. I’m a third generation Magician and ran Impossible’s Magic Shop for five years.

“During the Pandemic we had to close so I went back to social media. So now I combine running people on social media and performing magic. So I preform all over the world and I get to work in social media so it’s the best of both worlds. For further information about Impossible Media please check out, www.ImpossibleMediaInc.com.

Then it was time to check out this car he brought.

“So when we worked I  wanted a fun car. This Supra is an amazing vehicle. It you’re a BMW lover it’s a BMW and if you’re a Toyota fan then it’s a Toyota so it depends on whom you talk to.

“It’s like 50/50, it’s half Toyota,, the engine of a BMW so they did a great colab and this was the brain child of both of them. I believe Toyota approached BMW as the story goes and 2026 is the last year of this car then Toyota said they’ll have their own, the Mark 6 Supra will have their own engine. But this is a 24 and I see there is another Supra over there and there a couple others in Reno.

“I got this one because it’s from Chicago and there aren’t a lot out Supras out there. It’s a unique car, has a lot of history due to Fast and Furious that kind of put them on the map.”

A quartet of road bikes were also on hand.

In addition to the 4-wheel crowd a quartet of road bikes show up and a line soon formed on either side of them.

There were a lot of spectators admiring the cars and trucks.

The show drew many spectators and all of the lines, there were four of them, drew a lot of cars. Needless to add there were lines at Handel’s Ice Cream.

• Sunday started with Reno Cars and Coffee having their final meet of the month. As usual it was by the Human Bean Coffee Stand close to the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.

This row had both cars with their hoods up and cars without any hoods.

There was a line of cars that was a combination. Some had their hoods up while, at the other end, were cars that had no hoods.

The smallest vehicle on display was this go kart.

Variety is the name and this time the smallest vehicle was this Go Kart. This drew a lot of chuckles from those that walked over to see it.

This roadster was sitting by itself.

One of the classic style cars was this Roadster that was sitting by it self.

Another classic was a white T-Bucket owned by Don Miller.

Don Miller stands by his ’23 T-Bucket replica.

Asked about his car he said, “It’s actually a 2010, 23’ T-Bucket Replica. It’s a 35 Cleveland, with a Cruise-A-Matic transmission for a nine-inch rear end. I basically bought it this way and kind of made it my own. I’ve only had it for about 8 months so it’s new to me and it gets a lot of attention for sure.”

Another view of Miller’s T-Bucket.

He did go to a couple of the Hot August Events but the car didn’t win any award.

Asked how it was to drive he said, “Terrible and frightening.  The car only weighs about eleven hundred pounds and I think it’s about 370 horsepower. Kind of squirrely and I haven’t tried any windy roads yet.”

This Rolls Royce Silver Cloud drew some attention.

One classic that was drawing a lot of attention was a 1960 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud II. In its day is was a luxury car that really stood out.

Sunday was the final time for the Museum Cup. The host club was the Iron Mafia.

• That same day the National Automobile Museum was hosting the final Museum Cup display. This time the host club was the Iron Mafia and visitors could vote on the People’s Choice award.

This 1957 Ford was on display.

While it didn’t fill up the area there some were some great looking cars. One of them was this great looking 1957 Ford sedan.

Here’s a more classic Ford,, a 1929 model.

Another Ford was this 1929 Sedan that was on display.

This Studebaker sedan was also on display.

There was also a find looking Studebaker sedan. It will be interesting to learn which was chosen to be the People’s Choice.
