RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW – JAN. 22 TO 25

RENO, NV (Jan 21) — Almost the end of January and there are more car meets as well as racing ahead of us. A lot of the events are still on the TV or Internet but the meets are local.

CAR MEETS:

The weekend gets going on Thursday at Kim’s Donut and Tea House.

• Kim’s Kruisers get the weekend going as they meet at 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Location is Kim’s Donuts and Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• When this was posted Carson Cars & Coffee had not put out anything for the weekend. Since they tend to have pop up events would be a good idea to check their Face Book page on Friday and Saturday.

Sparks Cars & Coffee meets at 10 a.m. Sunday.

• Sunday, from 10 until noon, Sparks Cars & Coffee will have their final meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks off of Disc Drive in Sparks.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• All the tracks in our region are still in their winter break but things will start happening toward the end of March.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• This Saturday the AMA Supercross series does Anaheim 2.  The race can be seen live on Peacock or, later, www.youtube.com will have highlights.

This weekend it’s time for King of the Motos, which is part of the King of the Hamners off-road event. Please not the schedule change.

• There is one more motorcycle event that draws off-road riders to the desert and that is the King of the Hammers or King of the Motos event. Things get rolling Thursday down at Johnson Valley, California and continue through Sunday. If you want to see some crazy motorcycle racing to go King of the Hammers and find their live stream.

A week before the MRANN race the motocross track at Reno-Fernley Raceway has open practice.

• Locally the motocross track at the Reno-Fernley Raceway has practice Sunday from 10 until 3 p.m. Next week MRANN opens their season at the track using a cross country course. 

REP Racing MX has a full schedule including open practice Sunday at the Sandbox MX in Fernley.

• REP Racing MX also has a full schedule for this weekend.  Included, and closer to home, is open practice, from 10 until 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Sandbox MX track.

MMX Racing starts the weekend with a AMA District 36 Grand Prix.

• MMX Racing has a full schedule this weekend. There will be an AMA District 36 Grand Prix on Saturday that starts at 7:30 in the morning and runs through the entire day.

On Sunday MMX Racing has practice on all of its tracks.

• MMX will also have open practice Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m. on all four of its tracks.

E Street MX Park has practice Saturday and Sunday.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back tracks will be used.

RACING (NATIONAL):

• This week IMSA kicks off Speed Weeks in Daytona. On Thursday on www.imsa.tv at 11:05 a.m. its IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Qualifying for the Rolex 24 Hour race. Then at 2:10 p.m. IMSA TV will air the Mazda MX-5 Cup race from Daytona

• IMSA TV carries the load on Friday. At 6:55 a.m. they show the second Mazda MX-5 Cup race. Then at 10:40 a.m., along with Peacock, they air the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge.

This Saturday the Rolex 24 at Daytona starts and ends Sunday morning.

• Saturday at 10:30 a.m. NBC has the start of the twice-around-the-clock Rolex 24 at Daytona. Coverage continues over on Peacock.

• On Sunday the coverage continues on Peacock and NBC until 11 a.m.

• Other sites to see racing are www.floracing.com, www.racexr.com, www.speedsport.tv, www.dirtvision.com and of course www.youtube.com.

That’s it for this weekend. Plenty of things to see on TV but if possible get out and see a car meet. You’ll see some great cars as we as meet some great people and the weather should be good.

Stadium GP is looking for volunteers to help run this annual event.

Hot August Nights is looking for volunteers to help in this annual event.

• If one would like to be involved in helping Hot August Nights they are looking to build up their volunteer group.  The site you need to check is in the graphic.

On Saturday the Henchmen MC is having a benefit to help one of their members.

• Henchmen MC is having a benefit as well as a watch party. The goal is to help a member, donations are welcomed, and the location is 2126 Prater Way in Sparks.

Battle Born MX is having its awards banquet on Saturday at Need2 Speed.

• On January 31 Battle Born MX is hosting its awards banquet at Need2Speed, which is at the Northtowne Shopping Center.

Only a week before the season starts and MRANN is reminding folks to make sure they’ve renewed their membership.

• The first MRANN race of the season is only two weeks away. They are asking people to make sure their Membership and number request have been submitted. The site is www.racemrann.com.
