SPARKS CARS & COFFEE PLUS ANNOUNCEMENTS

SPARKS, NV (Jan. 25) — Despite the cold morning one of the largest turnouts happened today. Some was due to the recruiting effort by Ed Hughes who helped bring in a bunch of right hand drive cars.

They formed two rows and Gie Rod contributed this picture of both rows. Have to give special thanks to him.

One of the more interesting, and largest vehicle on display, was a former military truck that has been converted into a camper. This rig is probably able to cross any terrain.

The biggest vehicle on display was this M1079 truck that was converted into a camper.

Asked about the rig owner Chris Dickerson said,  “It’s a 1998 Stewart Stevenson M1079 Military Truck, it’s called an LMTV. We bought it fresh out of an auction, went through it, replaced the turbo, put Eco Hubs so it removes the Planetary Gears in the axels and we get 12.5 miles to a gallon and can do 70 miles an hour.

Chris Dickerson used this converted military truck to take his wife and daughter to various hot springs.

“In the back we built it up to be a camper so it’s got 800 watts of solar, 600 amp hours of lithium battery and it’s fully decked out for endless adventures. Took us about a year to build it and we’ve had it for about 14 months now.

Dickerson explained he and his wife, as well as his daughter, us it for going to hot springs. So they can go about anywhere and have a camper to stay in.

The van really shows how big this military truck actually is.

The van owned by Ed Hughes, that’s parked on one side of it, is a great example of how big this rig actually is.

Not far away there was another restored and modified vehicle owned by A.J.

AJ stands by his modified Toyota pick up truck.

Asked about the pick up he said, “It’s an ’81 Toyota Hilux pick up. It’s got a Turbo 22R, Coil Overs all around, 4-Link in the back. It’s fuel injected at the same time and that’s about it.

He added that due to the 4-Link they put a fuel cell in the back.

Here is the Turbocharged motor in the truck.

Asked how it drives he said, “Just a little bit wonky now as got some dialing in to do. Other than that it’s a blast to drive.”

As usual there was a wide variety of cars and trucks to see.

There were several rows of cars so the spectators had a large variety of cars, as well as some trucks to admire and inspect.

This Chevy II is powered by a 409 engine.

In one row there was a Chevy II equipped that had a 409 engine in it. It’s engine compartment is modified to hold this larger than stock motor.

The motor was the theme of a song many years ago.

That motor is the same the Beach Boys sang about many years ago. Its also motor is chromed and polished for all to see.

As usual there was everything from American iron to imports on display. The years also varied depending on the model.

This beautiful polished 1966 Chevy was also on display.

Another row had a cherry 1966 Chevy that was all polished and even had different headlights.

Even the engine was polished.

Even the engine was polished with chromed parts. It too had a bunch of people looking at it.
