RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: JAN. 29TO FEB. 1

RENO, NV (Jan. 28) — As we exit January there is more racing ahead of us with at least one and maybe two national series are about to start. Closer to home an off-road series will begins its 2026 season this weekend.

CAR MEETS:

Weekend starts at 8 a.m. Thursday at Kim’s Donuts and Tea House.

• As usual the weekend starts Thursday, around 8 a.m., when cruisers assemble at Kim’s Donut and Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• This weekend Carson Cars and Coffee has a double header. Location is Dutch Brothers Coffee located at 1231 South Carson Street. Friday’s meet starts at 6:30 and its also a 6:30 p.m. start to Saturday’s meet.

• Sunday has two groups meeting in Reno and both have a 10 a.m. stating time.

Reno Jeeps & Coffee has their monthly meeting Sunday.
  • Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee located at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran.
Reno Cars & Coffee meets this Sunday morning.
  • Reno Cars & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee that is close to the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• We are a month closer to the time our regional oval tracks and drag strips will be operating once again.

The 4-Wheel Part of King of the Hammers begins on Friday.

• To the south, in Johnson Valley, California, it’s time for the annual King of the Hammers. Everything gets rolling Thursday and goes until February 7. For live feeds go to www.kingofthehammers.com or you can see recaps on www.youtube.com.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

Tank Slappers MC starts the 2026 MRANN season at Reno-Fernley Speedway.

• This weekend the Tank Slappers MC opens the 2026 MRANN season with a course at the Reno-Fernley Raceway. Saturday is for the Pee Wees, Minis, Women an Bombers. The big bikes, starting at 10 a.m., race Sunday with two races on a long course.

REP Racing MX has a full schedule of practice sessions including Sunday at the Sandbox MX.

• REP Racing MX also has a full schedule. Both Riverfront MX and Prairie City MX have practice sessions. Closer to home the Sandbox MX has practice from 10 to 3 on Sunday but one has to register at www.repracingmx.com.

MMX Racing has practice Saturday and Sunday.

• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 Saturday on the Main, Sand and Kids tracks. Sunday’s times are 9 until 3 p.m. with the Vintage track added.

E Street MX Park has practice Saturday and Sunday.

• E-Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Argyll MX hosts round 1 of the OTHG series.

• Over at the Argyll MX track they have round 1 of the OTHG Vet series. Times are 9 to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour is on at 4 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports 1.

• Formula E is racing at Miami and their Friday practice is at 2 p.m. and can be seen on Roku.

NASCAR is going to try and host the Clash this weekend.

• On Saturday, if the weather holds, Fox Sports 1 has heat races from Bowman Gray Stadium as NASCAR heads for the annual Clash.

The weather might delay the Clash.

Also, just in case to check this on Friday as they have winter weather heading their way.

This week the AMA Supercross is in Houston, Texas.

• This week the AMA Supercross series moves east to Houston, Texas and Peacock will broadcast it. Things get rolling at 10 a.m. with Race Day Live then at 4 p.m. the network airs the race. This week they are using the Triple Crown Format where both classes race three times.

That’s it for this weekend. If you can’t get to a race be sure to visit one on of the car meets. You’ll see some great vehicles as well as meet some great people.

• Thursday, from 6 until 8 p.m., Stadium GP is hosting a Meet and Greet event to recruit volunteers. Location is South 40 at 1445 South Meadows Parkway.

Battle Born MX is having its award’s banquet on Saturday.

• This Saturday, from 1 until 6 p.m., Battle Born MX is hosting its 2025 Annual Awards Banquet. Location is at Northtowne, where 580 meets McCarran. One needs to register before at www.battlebornmx.com.

Hot August Nights is looking to build its volunteer crew.

• If you enjoy Hot August Nights, and want to be part of it they are seeking volunteers. They also announced that Hot August Nights is returning to downtown Reno. The website is www.hotaugustnights.net.

There will be a VW Cruise in early April. Details to follow.

• I wanted to give a heads up for you VW people. There is a group forming an is planning a cruise starting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 3rd. More details will be forthcoming.

AMA Arenacross is returning to Reno but it’s a Friday-Saturday event.

• The Kicker AMA Arenacross is returning to the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events center. They informed me it’s actually a two-day event although the poster graphic only shows Saturday. You’ll see some great racing and I hope to have a schedule in the next week or so.
