SPARKS CARS & COFFEE + CALENDAR MEET

RENO,  NV (Feb.22)  – Today Sparks Cars & Coffee had its second meet of the month. In the afternoon Nevada Car Coalition had its second Calendar Planning Meeting.

• The Sparks Cars & Coffee meet was by the Starbucks located on Disc Drive. While the turnout was on the light side there were still a wide variety of cars to see.

Two classics side by side, a Cadillac and a Lamborghini.

One example of variety was where a Cadillac convertible was parked next to a Lamborghini.

From two different eras, a 1950’s GMC pickup next to a Maserati sedan.

Another contrast was a 1950’s GMC pickup parked next to a Maserati sedan. Both were from two different eras.

The GMC had an enhanced motor.

The GMC, while looking stock, had an enhanced motor lurking under its hood.

This beautiful 1978 Camaro was also on display.

Not far away was a 1978i Blue Camaro that was shined up and on display.

Not only was the Camaro all shiny but its motor was as well.

The Camaro’s motor was also shined up and looked prefect in the engine compartment.

This started out as a 1972 Toyota but has been modified. Iet drew a lot of attention.

One of the most interesting cars started out as a 1972 Toyota Corolla. The body has been modified and it has slicks on the rear end as well as a turbocharged motor in front. This got a lot of people looking at it.

This 1933 Chevy was an example of a great restoration.

One late arrival was a beautiful restored 1933 Chevy two-door.

Next weekend meets continue with Reno Cars & Coffee as well as Reno Jeeps & Coffee that will have a cruise,

• Sunday is when the Nevada Car Coalition had its second 2026 Calendar Meeting at the National Auto Museum.

NCC president Dennis Lindasy opened the meeting.

Before the meeting got started this reporter had a chance to speak with NNC president Dennis Lindsay.

He first gave some background on the group and how it all evolved.

“During COVID, when we were shut down, I had this idea that all the car show aren’t going to happen any more,” he said. “I didn’t know how many clubs there were so I reached out to a couple of my members in the Dayton Valley Car Club and asked ‘what do you think if we reach out to some in other clubs.’ We had no clue of how long we’re going to be shut down.”

As he explained this was six years ago and there was a meeting arranged on Zoom.

“We went from a handful of people to today and we’re over 30 car clubs and about 1,300 to 1,400 members. Now the idea is to get a common area so people can book, share their shows, events and try not to over ride each other. And it has worked.”

Here is some of those in attendance at the meeting.

He added that at this meeting there would be a representative from the museum as well as the new executive director of Hot August Nights and people from other car clubs, who could add their shows to the calendar.

A pretty decent group from various car clubs were in attendance.

There was a pretty decent sized group from several clubs in attendance.

This screen later expanded to show everyone what the calendar would look like.

During the meeting the NCC representatives when over how a club could add their event to the calendar.

HAN executive director Lisa Jansen gave a pretty complete presentation of what will happen this year.

Next was Lisa Jansen, the new executive director of Hot August Nights. She went over some of the changes for this year, which is the event’s 40th anniversary.

One change is that there will be no super cruise, a lot will be downtown, and they are working on other areas as well. She went over the rising costs, especially in entertainment as well as having more free things.

Jansen also entertained a lot of questions from the group. While some things are still to be worked she was quite positive about this year’s events.

The Museum Cup series will continue this year.

The representative from the museum explained that the Museum Cup series would continue. Clubs display during an event and in October the winners have a show for the Cup.

Chris & Jessica Decker are the first to have their names engraved on the Museum Cup.

This past year Chris and Jessica Decker won the initial cup with their 1958 Chevy Delray. They are the first to have their names engraved on the new trophy, which is on display right when people enter the museum.

Finally the meeting adjourned and now everyone, as well as the clubs are preparing for this year’s shows and events.
