RENO, NV (March 1) — As we say hello to a new month we also say good-bye to a local shop and hello to a pair of meets on Sunday.
For the VW community Fibercraft has been one of the places to go for repairs, fabrication, supplies and off-road things. Saturday the shop closed with a Good-Bye BBQ.

Asked about the closing owner Adam Dimick said, “I’ve been working here for the last nine years and we purchased it about five years ago.”
Then he explained his reason for closing the business.
“It’s hard to compete on the online parts business. A lot of people are shopping online now days, it makes it a lot easier to purchase. So people don’t have to come into stores.
“The parts market dried up but we did pretty good in the automotive fixing industry.”
He added that he’ll keep working but now as an employee in another shop.

The Old Slammers were there and filled the parking lot next to the building.

Across the street there was a large line of VWs, both cars and vans. Everyone came for the BBQ and to say good-bye.
• Sunday morning not only started the month but Reno Jeeps & Coffee had its monthly meet.

The usual group was present discussing what they’ve added to their Jeeps and other things.

This time the group ended the meet with a cruise up to Moss Lake. Nice trip up the mountain.

Charles Doyle, who heads the group, explained some major changes are on the way. He said from now on the monthly meetings will start at different places then go for a cruise.

• Not far away Reno Cars & Coffee had its first of the month. There was a large group of cars as well as a long line at the Human Bean Coffee stand.

One car on display was a 1966 El Camino owned by Dave Dunbar.
Asked about it he said, “I got it with no drive train it in but the paint and everything was done already. I put the motor, rear end and transmission in.

“The motor is a 1996 Vortec block, bored and stroked to 427 cubic inch. Aluminim Heads and it’s all forged. The transmission is a Turbo 400 Automatic, the rear end is a Curry 373 Posi.”
Then he described how it drives.
“I just threw the 20 inch tires in the trash can for new 18 inch so now I’ve got some tires under it. Drives really good.”

Not far away there was a pretty good line of Corvettes from mid-engines to older front engine models.

With clouds heading in people started to leave. Two were Lamborghinis while others also started to go before the rain arrived.
The next local car meet will be on Sunday, March 8 when Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month. And remember that’s when Daylight Savings Time begins.
