RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: MARCH 5 TO 8

RENO, NV (March 4) — Here we are at the start of March and two more top line series are beginning their seasons. In this region there are car meets and soon more racing will start or continue.  

REPORTER’S NOTE: Remember Daylight Savings time starts Saturday night so be sure to set your clocks ahead one hour.

CAR MEETS:

The weekend starts Thursday morning at Kim’s Donuts & Tea House.

• Thursday should get going  with a meet around 8 a.m. at Kim’s Donut and Tea Shop. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• Friday at 6:30 p.m. Carson Cars & Coffee meets at the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand. They’ll also have another meet at the same time on Saturday. The stand is located as 1231 South Carson Street.

Karts & Kars happens this Saturday afternoon.

• Need2Speed is starting Kars & Karts car meet and patio party every first Saturday of the month. On Saturday things begin at 2 p.m. and the location is 2863 Northtowne Lane, the shopping center where North McCarran and 580 meet.

Sparks Cars & Coffee meets Sunday morning.

• Sparks Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive in Sparks at the south end of Spanish Springs Valley.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

The Mint 400 happens this weekend in Southern Nevada.

• This weekend the Mint 400 off-road race happens in Southern Nevada. It’s round two of the American Off-Road Championship. There is a festival on Fremont Street in Las Vegas but the race itself is not far away outside of Primm.

• Here in the north Oval Tracks and Drag Strips are still in their winter pause but at the end of March that will end.

PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS):

The third race of the MRANN season is this weekend. Its the Wild Horse, Wild Pony Sprint Enduro.

• This weekend Western States Racing Association is hosting the Wild Horse Sprint Enduro, which is Round 3 of the MRANN series. Two days of racing and Sunday will be when Daylight Savings Times has started. Location is east of Fernley off Exit 78 on I-80.

The motocross track at the Reno-Fernley Raceway has practice on Saturday.

• Closer to home the Reno-Fernley Raceway is having motocross practice from 10 until 3 on Saturday.

REP Racing MX has a full schedule at its tracks.

• REP Racing MX has a full schedule this weekend. They also started having practice sessions on Tuesday nights from 5 until 10 p.m. at Riverfront MX.

  • Riverfront MX has practice from 5 until 10 Thursday then, at those same times, Friday is Mini Night. Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. is a private DCMX Ride Day while Sunday, at those same times, is open Practice.
There was a last minute correction to the schedule for PCMX.
  • On Saturday, from 9 until 2 p.m. Prairie City MX has open practice but Saturday there is a private event.
PC MX has a GP race on Sunday so no open practice.
  • Its actually a race, the Trailblazers GP, which is Round 2 of the AMA District 36 series.
The next round is at MMX Racing this weekend.

• This weekend is busy for MMX Racing as they host Round 5 of this year’s P.R.O. Frigid 8 Series. This round is also for double points.

In addition to hosting a race MMX Racing is using its other tracks for practice.
  • In addition MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 on Saturday using the Sand and Kids tracks while the main is for race practice. On Sunday, from 9 until 3 there is practice on the Vintage, Sand and Kids tracks while the race happens on the Main.
E Street MX Park has practice on the front and back courses Saturday and Sunday.

• E Street MX Park has practice from 9 until 2 Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back tracks will be used.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONALS):

TV Schedule for this weekend.

• Here is the TV schedule for both NASCAR and Indy Car. Everything is behind a pay wall with one exception, the Indy Car race from Phoenix is on FOX.

• Thursday Apple TV has Formula 1 practices from Melbourne, Australia. The first is at 5:10 p.m. then at 8:40 p.m. the second is shown.

At 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has the ARCA race from Phoenix.

• Friday is pretty open but Apple TV has Formula 1 practice at 5:10 a.m. then at 8:25 Formula 1 qualifying.

AMA Supercross is at Indianapolis this week.

• Saturday is when the AMA Supercross series moves to Indianapolis. Peacock has Race Day Live starting at 10 a.m. then the main event starts at 4 p.m.

  • The Indy Car race, which is on Fox starts at noon and goes for 250 Laps.
  • The NHRA season begins and it’s the 75th anniversary of the series, which begins with the Gatornationals. The TF All-Star Callout is at 1 p.m. on Fox Sports 1.
Formula 1 is in Australia this weekend and can be seen on Apple TV.
  • The Formula 1 race, which is on Apple TV starts at 8 p.m. from Melbourne.
Due to the turmoil Formula 1 has canceled two races in the Middle East.
  • Due to the turmoil in the Middle East Formula 1 has canceled the races in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain.

• Over at the Daytona International Speedway the annual Daytona 200 races are happening. There are several classes of motorcycles but the main is the Superbike event.

Finding where it will be shown was a challenge. So I found at MALive_/MTRSPTS1 seems to have it streamed. One can also watch it on Monday as You Tube will show the race on a delayed basis.

• Sunday begins on Fox Sports 1 as they have NHRA Qualifying #1 at 7 a.m. then the finals of the season opening Gaternationals starts at 9 a.m. from Gainesville.

Finally the day ends when Fox Sports 1 at 10:30 airs the NASCAR Cup race from Phoenix.

• Remember www.youtube.com has the highlights for most of the races on a delayed basis.

That’s it for this weekend. If possible attend a race as there is nothing like being there. If not then come to one of the car events. No matter which one you choose you’ll meet some great people.

BBMX is at the Sandbox MX next weekend. Now is the time to pre-register.

• For Motocross racers now is the time to pre-register for next week’s BBMX event at the Sand Box MX track in Fernley.

Now is the time to register for the Virginia City Grand Prix.

• Remember if one is racing in this year’s Virginia City Grand Prix now is the time to register as the pre-race drawing party is only a few weeks away.

The Reno Boat & RV Show also has the Off-Road Expo.

• Just as a head’s up the annual Reno Boat Show and Off-Road Motorsports Expo is at the end of this month. It’s a great show.
