RACING, CAR MEETS + CRUISES: JULY 17 TO 21

RENO, NV (July 20) — Summer is still here and the car meet banquet table is over flowing. Adding to that are races as well as what is on TV and the Internet.

CAR MEETS:

If you are in or around Gardnerville early Thursday morning might want to join he Iron Mafic gathering.

• Weekend gets going early, around 8 a.m. Thursday when the Iron Mafia has its weekly meeting.  Location is Kim’s Donuts and Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

Once again their is a Thursday night cruise in Carson City.
  • This week’s Thursday Night Cruise, which begins at 5 p.m., starts at Ace Hardware located on Topsy Lane.
The Fernley Friday Night Cruise is back. Great way to end the work week.

• Fernley’s Friday Night Cruise returns Friday evening. A great way to unwind after the workweek as it runs from 6 until 9 p.m. Many times they’ll meet at the Wigwam and cruise Main Street.

The first of two Carson Cars & Coffee meets starts at 7 p.m. on Friday.
  • Carson Cars & Coffee has two meets scheduled for this weekend. Friday’s starts at 7 p.m. and the location is the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand located at 1231 S. Carson Street.
The 6th annual Car Show starts at 8 a.m. Saturday.

• Saturday gets rolling when Somersett’s 6th Annual Car Show happens. Hours are 8 until 2 p.m. and the location is 7650 Town Square Way.

Need your car washed? Go over to the Bikini Car Wash in Sparks on Saturday.
  • Need your car washed? Well from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday there is the Bikini Car Wash. It’s a fund-raiser to help the Reno Vaqueros. Location is Palominos Tires at 1505 Glendale Ave., Sparks.
The Kerak Sriners are having a charity cruise-in at the Sparks A&W.
  • A little later that afternoon, from 5 until 9 p.m. Kerak Shriners Present a Show & Shine. Location is the Sparks A&W at 1311 Baring Blvd., across from Reed High School.
Saturday afternoon Cars & Cream is having a meet at an ice cream shop.
  • Then from 7 until 9:30 p.m. Cars & Cream meets at Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream. It’s located in the Summit Sierra Mall.
Starting at 7 p.m. Saturday at Dutch Brothers, Carson Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the weekend.
  • Further south Carson Cars & Coffee is having its second meet of the weekend Saturday. The meet begins at 7 p.m. and is by the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand located at the Carson Mall.
Sunday morning is when the National Auto Museum has the next round of its Museum Cup series. This is also a HAN event.

• Sunday gets rolling, starting at 10 a.m. when the National Auto Museum has another of its Museum Cup Series car shows, which are part of Hot August Nights. The show goes on until 5 p.m. and the Fernley Klassic Kruizers will be competing in the show.

Reno Jeeps & Coffee has its next meet starting at 10 a.m. Sunday.
  • Reno Jeeps & Coffee is having its second meet of the month starting at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran. 
Starting at 10 a.m. Sunday is when Reno Cars & coffee has its next meet.
  • Reno Cars & Coffee will also be meeting, starting at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee Stand. That one is located near the corner of Moana and Keitzke Lanes.
Starting at noon Sunday the Destiny Church is having a car show and BBQ.
  • The Destiny Church, after the 10:30 service ends, is having a Show ‘N’ Shine and BBQ. The function begins at noon and I believe the address is 790 Sutro Street in Reno.
On Sunday, starting at 1:30 Summit Racing Parts in Sparks is having another Cruise-In.
  • Over at 960 E. Glendale in Sparks, from 1:30 until 4:30 p.m. Summit Racing Parts is having another Sunday afternoon Cruise In. Everyone lines up in the west parking lot.
This week there is another Pizza Cruise on Monday.

• This week there is a Monday gathering. It’s Pizza and Cars as the next Pizzava Classic Nights are here. Times are 5 to 7 p.m. and the location is at 670 E. Prater Way in Sparks.

RACING PRACTICE (4-WHEEL):

Saturday is when the West Coast Pro Stock series visits Cedarville, Calif.

• Saturday, starting at 6 p.m., the West Coast Pro Stocks visit Cedarville Raceway. I believe the track is about one hour north of Susanville on 395. Should be a wild night up there.

Sunday, starting at 6 p.m. is when Diamond Mountain Speedway has the annual Susanville Fair Races.

• Sunday evening, starting at 6 p.m. up in Susanville, the Diamond Mountain Speedway is hosting the annual Fair Races. The grandstands open at 5 p.m. while its 3 p.m. for the pit gates.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

This weekend’s schedule for REP Racing MX.

• This week’s REP Racing schedule has open practice from 5 until 10 p.m. Thursday at Riverfront MX. Prairie City MX has open practice from 8 until 1 p.m. as they adjusted the schedule for the expected heat.

  • The Sandbox MX track in Fernley has open practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday. The MX track at Reno-Fernley will start having practice sessions the first week in August on the improved course.
Here is the weekend’s schedule for MMX Racing.
  • MMX Racing has switched to its summer schedule with a note about if the temperature goes over 100. Since this is the third Sunday of the month the Vintage track will be available.
Due to water problems, E Street MX Park will be closed this weekend.
  • E Street has been having problems with the track’s well so they’ve been closed. If they can get a new pump and can fill the water truck they might be open this weekend. Best bet is to check their Face Book page or on Instagram.

REPORTER’S NOTE: This week’s preview is late as I wanted to see if E Street had their water problem solved. Sadly they do not so they are closed.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

I’m going to make a small change to this section. Since two major series are putting their schedules behind pay walls I’ll put those first. Then continue with other events in the regular fashion.

Here is the TV schedule for the Indy Car series. They race in Canada this weekend.

• The Indy Car series moves to Canada this weekend for the Streets of Toronto event. Fox Sports 1 and 2 carry a lot of the schedule but Fox has the race starting at 9 a.m. Pacific time on Sunday.

NASCAR is at Dover this weekend and here is their schedule.

• NASCAR moves east and races at Dover this weekend. All their events are on different networks. However, like the Indy Car races, www.youtube.com has highlights one can see after the race is completed.

• Thursday at 8 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour. 

• For Friday check the Indy Car and NASCAR schedule posted earlier in this article.

• Saturday is starts early when at 5:55 a.m. Fox Sports 1 has MotoGP Sprint race from Brno.

The AMA Pro Motocross series is a Washougal, Washington this week.
  • Then Peacock and NBC team up at 9 a.m. to air Race Day lIve. Then at noon Peacock will broadcast the current AMA Pro Motocross round from Washougal,
  • Fox Sports 1 comes on at 7 p.m. to air the NHRA Qualifying round #1 from Washington.

• Sunday begins at 4:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 2 has MotoGP from Brno.

  • Then at 9 a.m. Fox airs the Indy Car race from Toronto. Another race where drivers have to be inch perfect as they are racing between walls.
NHRA is in Kent, Washingon this weekend for their Northwest Nationals.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 11:30 has NHRA Qualifying Show #2 then at 1:30 FOX has the final rounds from the NHRA Northwest Nationals staged at Kent, Washington. This begins the series annual western swing.

This coming Wednesday is when the Mini Moto Mouth Team joins Bike Night at PJ&CO.

• Next Wednesday, starting at 5:30 p.m., PJ&CO’s Bike Night will have the Moto Mouth Mini Team as their guests. Great chance to meet these young racers that compete in Motocross and on the desert with MRANN.
