RENO, NV (July 30) — As we say good-by to July we’ll welcome August and that month comes in with a bang. There will be plenty of car meets, cruises not to mention racing on TV and the Internet.
CAR MEETS:

• As usual the Iron Mafia gets the weekend rolling starting at 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.
– There is no Thursday Night cruise scheduled for Carson City until after Hot August Nights.

• The biggest event in this region is the annual Hot August Nights, a celebration of cars that were made yeas ago.

- Things get started Friday at 8 a.m. when there is a Show-n-Shine in Virginia City as well as at the J Resort in Reno. From 10:30 until 2:30 p.m. Summit Racing Equipment has a Show-n-Shine.
- That evening on the west side of the Nugget here will be drag races and burnouts. The event runs from 6 p.m. until Midnight.
• In addition to Hot August Nights there are other events happening as well.

- The Sparks High School Railroaders, from 11 until 4 p.m. are hosting a Grand Reunion Car Show. Location is the high school football field and it benefits the school’s Alumni Foundation.

- From 4 until 8 p.m. the Bridge Church is hosting the 2nd Annual Classic Car Show. Location is 150 Isidor in Spanish Springs.

- Starting at 7 p.m. the Untouchable Image of Northern Nevada is hosting its 6th annual Highway Nights. Family friendly, open to all years and styles, there also will be food trucks and music. Location is Pyramid Park Shopping Center at 880 Holman Way in Sparks.

•Sunday gets rolling at 10 a.m. with a trio of meets. The biggest is when the Bonanza Casino hosts the Cruisin’ for the Cure car show. This usually fills the north parking lot and benefits the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

- That same time Reno Jeeps & Coffee has its first meet of the month. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee stand at the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran.

- Not far away, again at 10 a.m., Reno Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month. Location is by the Human Bean Coffee stand near the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes.
• Monday things slow down a bit but the Atlantis starts its Acres of Champion Show-n-Shine and Cruise. The Peppermill also starts is annual Show-n-Shine and the new HAN area at UNR opens.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• This week Lovelock Speedway is helping the town celebrate its founding. There is a festival by the courthouse that runs from Friday through Sunday. The Speedway has racing both Friday and Saturday nights with gates opening at 5 p.m. and racing usually begins around 6 p.m.
PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS):

• REP Racing MX has a busy schedule this weekend. Riverfront MX has open practice Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. and Friday, from 5 until 10 p.m. is for Minis.
- Prairie City (PCMX) from 8 until 1 p.m. has a private ride Saturday for DCMX. Sunday, from 8 until 1 p.m. is open practice.
- The Sandbox MX in Fernley has open practice from 8 until 1 p.m. on Sunday.

- MMX has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the Sand and Kid’s tracks then on Saturday the Main is added to the mix. Sunday from 9 until 3 p.m. is open practice and the Vintage track is added.
- Friday is race day for their Stadium Cross series.

-E Street MX Park has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. on the front and back tracks.

Saturday is when they’ll run the next round of the SXS series.
RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

• Once again NASCAR has put its events behind pay walls so here is their weekend schedule. Remember all times are eastern so for those of us in the west, subtract three hours. Thankfully www.yourtube.com usually carries highlights from all those races.
• Thursday at 7 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour. This week’s guest is Mark Martin.
• Friday is a slow day so good time to checkout what www.floracing.com or www.mavtv.com might be broadcasting.
• Things heat up Saturday when Peacock and www.imsa.tv has qualifying from Watkins Glen. This week the IMSA WeatherTech Sportcar series is visiting the track.
- And of course there is also NASCAR racing so please check the schedule at the start of this section.

• Sunday starts at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Hungary.

- Then at 11 a.m. Peacock has the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car race from the classic Watkins Glen course in upper state New York.
That’s it for this weekend and the next 10-days will be full for car fans. If possible try and get out to see a race or enjoy the cruises and all that goes on at Hot August Nights.
