CAR MARATHON SUNDAY

RENO, NV (Aug. 17) — A week after Hot August Nights departs and there are car meets all over the place. They range from Minden to Fallon as well as Reno and Sparks.

Reno Jeeps & Coffee had their second meet of the month on Sunday.

• Two groups got Sunday rolling. Over by the Human Bean Coffee Stand, on the corner of Longley and South McCarran, Reno Jeeps & Coffee held its second meet of the month. 

Not far away, by the Human Bean Coffee Stand at the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes, there was another meet. This is where Reno Cars & Coffee met.

Most car meets usually have contrasts. Here two very different cars are side by side.

As usual there were some contrasts. One was a T-Bucket that maybe based off a Ford parked right by a Ford Falcon.

There were a trio of black Corvettes.

There was a trio of Corvettes parked side-by-side. This time they were all in black.

This Chevy is back from HAN.

Over on another row there was a Chevy sedan with a flaming paint job. It was one of the several that had participated in Hot August Nights.

• In Sparks, over on East Prater to the west of Vista Blvd., there was the Pin Up Car Wash. For a donation one could have their car or truck washed and dried off.

Asked about the event and which group it benefits Carley Jane said,” This is the second annual Pin Up car wash benefiting Northern Nevada Classics, the best car club in the Northern Nevada area. We put this on so we can get donations so our club can continue to bring charity themed events to Northern Nevada. We work with the Veterans, SPCA as well as children so we’re out here collecting so we can keep putting on show.”

Over on East Glendale there was a Cruise-In hosted by Summit Racing Equipment. While the turn out wasn’t too big there was a variety of cars and trucks.

One of the pickups was a 1929 Tungsten Hauling truck. It’s been fully restored and even had mirrors so people could the underside of it.

The motor, which might not be original, was also spruced up and looked great.

Another truck was a restored International Harvestor pick up.

Not far away was a fully restored 1953 International Harvestor pick up. The owner said it was a barn find and that he did a full off frame restoration.

Not far away there were more cars plus a green pickup parked next to a red Nova.

The Reno Mustang Car Club had a huge display at the National Auto Museum as they were competing for the Museum Cup.

This Shelby GT 500 was just one of the many Mustangs on display.

All the cars were in mint condition including a Red Shelby GT500.

This 1968 Mustang Convertible was on display.

There were several rows of Mustang for people to look at and cast a vote for the three awards. One of the Mustangs was a 1968 Mustang Convertible.

This Mustang had modified doors that swung up rather than out.

One of the Mustangs on display had modified doors so they swung up rather than out like most. It was a 2006 model and all in black.

Later when the show closed the three winners were announced and they were:

  • Dave Taverner whose 1970 Mach 1 earned the People’s Choice award.
  • Next was Hank Perry who also entered a 1970 Mach 1 won the Hot August Night Event Series Award.
  • Finally Joe Wyatt, who entered a 1970 Boss 429, earned the Executive Director’s Award.

Next month there will be another show for more awards at the Museum.

The final Pizzava Classic Nights is this Monday.

• Things continue Monday as the final “It’s Pizza and Cars,” happens. The event, running from 5 until 7 p.m. is the final Pizzava Classic Nights. Location is 670 E. Prater Way in Sparks.

Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada meets Tuesday evening.

• On Tuesday, starting at 6:30, Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada meets. Location is Tacos El Ray at 5100 Mae Ann.

• Wednesday starting around 5 p.m. there are two different meets happening.

Wednesday evening is he next Cruise-In at the Sparks A&W.
  • The Sparks A&W, located at 1311 Baring Blvd., across from Reed High has its weekly Cruise Night. There is a live D.J., music and prizes.
Wednesday evening is Bike Night at PJ&CO.
  • For the Riders out there PJ&CO has its weekly bike night. Good food and some great looking bikes to see. Location is on Wells just north of the round about at the south end of the street.

OTHER RACING NEWS:

The promoters at Diamond Mountain Speedway are looking for sponsors.

• This past weekend the promoters for Diamond Mountain Speedway in Susanville had to cancel the scheduled race. They are looking for sponsors due the cost of staging the races. Right now the hope is to be able to have the final two-day show at the end of the season.

Nominations for Board Members are now open.

• If you motocross and want to help, as well as make a difference in the sport, there is an opportunity. Battle Born MX announced Board nominations are open.

In just over two weeks a lucky person will win this car. The ticket sales helps Honor Flight Nevada.

• A little over a week to go before the drawing for this car happens. The funds raised from donations to buy tickets help Honor Flight Nevada.
