RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: AUG. 21 TO24

RENO, NV (Aug. 20) — As we close in to the end of August there is no slow down with regional races or car meets. Not to mention what’s on TV and the Internet.

CAR MEETS:

Newly named Kim’s Kruisers meets Thursday mornings at Kim’s Donut Shop.

• As usual the weekend gets rolling when the newly named Kim’s Kruizers meets at 8 a.m. Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donuts and Tea house at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

Only two more are left.
  • That same night, from 5 until 7 p.m. it’s the next to last Thursday Night Cruise in Carson City. Meeting location is Moundhouse Mopars at $5 Brown Drive.
Here is a Car Show for those in a senior care center.
  • That same evening from 6 until 7 p.m. there is a Car Show in Minden. Location is 973 Ironwood Drive by the Valage Senior Living Center.
Only two more Fernley Friday Cruise nights left.
  • • The Fernley’s Friday Night Cruise is back and there are only two more left. This Friday times are 6 until 9 p.m. so it’s a great way to end the workweek.

• Saturday is also a busy day and there are a lot of choices due to the many events.

Saturday starts early when Incline Cars & Coffee has a meet.
  • Starting at 8 a.m. Incline Cars & Coffee has a meet up at Incline Village. Location is the Tunnel CreekCafe off highway 28 on the south side of the village.
Rustoration Garage is meeting as part of Fallons Cantaloupe Festival.
  • To the east, starting at 9 a.m., the Rustoration Garage in Fallon is hosting a Car & Bike Show. It celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Cantaloupe Festival. Location is the 3C Event Complex at the fairgrounds.
Cars & Stripes benefits Veteran’s programs.
  • Here in Reno, stating at 10 a.m. there is the Car, Truck & Motorcycle Show. It’s a great veteran’s benefit show and the location in the Sportsman Warehouse Lot a 3306 Kietzke Lane.
Cars & Cream is a meet that ends up at a great ice cream shop.
  • If you have a sweet tooth Cars & Cream has a meet, stating at 7 p.m., by Handel’s Ice Cream. It’s located in the Summit Mall as 13987 S. Virginia St.

• Sunday isn’t quite as busy but there are still functions to attend as well as cars to see.

Minden Airport has a show with aircraft as well as cars
  • Down at the Minden Airport they have the Discovery Day, Wings Wheels show. Time is from 8 until 2 p.m. with aircraft and cars on display. Easy access of 395 between Carson City and Minden.

  • Starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month. Location is by the Starbucks on Disc Drive.
This Car Show is on East Winnie Lane In Carson City.
  • That afternoon, starting at 3 p.m. it’s the First Annual El Billar & La Tapatia Car Show. Location is 208 E. Winnie Lane in Carson City.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Both Lovelock Speedway and Summit Raceway combined their posters as both will be in action this weekend.

• Two Northern Nevada Tracks are racing this weekend. Lovelock Speedway will be in action Saturday and there is usually a 6 p.m. start to the action.

  • To the east Summit Raceway, located just outside of Elko, has two nights of racing. This time is a Friday-Saturday show.
There is a Truck & Tractor Pull in Fallon at the Fairgrounds on Saturday.

• Although it’s not exactly racing this is still motorsport  competition. On Saturday, starting at 6 p.m., as part of the Fallon Cantaloupe Festive there is a Truck & Tractor Pull.

The annual night race honors one of the club’s founders.

• Up at Stead the Northern Nevada Kart Club is staging the Rick Jerome Memorial Night Race. The event honors one on of the club’s founders and is split between two nights.

Friday is night practice Day.
  • On Friday there is night practice as the racers deal with a cool track. It’s also a time to check out any special lighting some will put on their karts.
Saturday is race day and night and here is the schedule.
  • Saturday is race day and night. Looks like there will be one qualifying heat before dinner. After that the racing begins and usually ends sometimes around midnight.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

Biggest event in our area is the annual Outlaw Flat Trac races in Carson City.

• Biggest race in our area is the annual Outlaw Flat Trac event at Fuji Park In Carson City. Thursday night is usually for practice.

  • Friday starts with amateurs around 8 a.m. then there will be mains. The spectator gates open at 7 p.m. with the pro races starting at 7p.m.
  • Saturday begins with the amateurs and their program runs from 10 until 3 p.m. Gates for spectators opens at 6 p.m. with Pro Racing beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday is when they run the Duce, an elimination series for an increasing amount of money. 
After being dark for many years MMX Racing is breathing new life into the Stead MX track.

• This weekend MMX Racing is coming over the hill to reopen the Stead MX track. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day. To reach the track use the dirt extension of Lemmon Drive and go past the go kart track, Stead MX is about a mile further.

Looks like MMX Racing could some help getting the Stead MX track ready.
  • As of Wednesday MMX Racing was looking for a few volunteers to help with the fencing and to pick up debris.

• REP Racing MX has an altered schedule. Riverfront MX is closed on Thursday but from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday has a DCMX Private Ride Day.

  • PC MX, from 8 until 1 p.m. has Open Practice on Saturday and Sunday. The Sandbox in Fernley, from 8 until 1 p.m. has open practice on Sunday.

• MMX Racing is closed Thursday but on Saturday, from 8 until 1 p.m. has practice then from 8 until 2 on Sunday. The Main, Sand Kid’s tracks will be used this weekend.

E Street MX Park has practice this weekend.

• E-Street MX Park has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• TRYING SOMETHING DIFFERENT THIS WEEKEND THAT GIVES READERS MORE OPTIONS IF THEY WANT TO SEE MOTORSPORT EVENTS. THESE COME FROM RACERX AND ALL TIMES ARE EASTERN.

• Thursday is an empty day so one can go to www.youtube.com and see highlights of races that happened last week. There will be more this week after those races have ended.

The final round of the AMA Pro Motocross is at Bud’s Creak.
  • If you follow the AMA Pro Motocross series the final of this series is Saturday at Budd’s Creek located in Mechanicsville, Maryland. Race Day live starts at 7 a.m. Pacific Time and the races begin at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
