RENO, NV (Aug. 24) — As August is winding down there is a flurry of events and meets. It’s a busy time for race and car fans.
• Saturday got started with the Cars and Stripes car, truck and motorcycle show. It all happened at the parking lot in front of the Sportsman’s Warehouse.

There was a huge variety of cars and trucks on display. Several rows in the parking lot were full of all types of vehicles.

One unusual car was an early post war BMW. There were very small and at one time sold in America.

Before lunch was served the colors were presented with the honor guard from the Fernley Veteran’s Cemetery. Joining them were members of the North Valley’s JROTC, whose members did some research and recreated WW II Army uniforms.

After presenting the colors there was a prayer and blessing. Close by the Vet Center had a van and Honor Flight Nevada was having its fund raising drawing. They were only two of the groups present.

All in all it was a good time for car fans as well as the veteran organizations. There were even some vintage military vehicles.
• That evening there was a Cruise-In at the Summit Mall. The occasion was for Cars & Cream that featured Handels Ice Cream store. In fact the store was handing out 2 for 1 coupons plus selling water and soda.

The cars took up at least four rows of the parking lot. In one row there was a trio of exotics where two Lamborghini’s were parked next to a Porsche and two were essentially the same color.

That same row had a woman who brought her Shelby GT500 Mustang.

Most people wandered around checking all the cars on display then would head to the ice cream shop.
• Sunday started when Sparks Cars & Coffee held its second meet of the month. With the possibility of rain the turn out was less than it usually is but there were plenty of cars and trucks.

Of course one row had cars with their hoods up so people could see the motor. Some of them had been enhanced and their owners want to show off their handiwork.

Over on another row there was a beautiful T-Bucket parked among the sedans.

In another row was an enhanced VW Beetle with different bodywork.

The motor in back was chromed.

There was also an EVO that is owned by Krishan Udvadia and he said, “It’s my 2006 EVO 9. Started life as pretty stock and then slowly went through the seven years of me ruining it. Now we’re like a track car.
The interior was very different from stock, especially the steering wheel.

“I built this GT3 wheel, reprinted it and laid it in carbon as my first fiber project. Car has six-point harness with a full containment seat with intercom with a passenger,” he said.
“It’s a grip car for grip racing. We did Big Willow probably six times, we did Vegas Motor Speedway and we did Button Willow.”
He added that working on the performance is one of the on going projects.
“The moto has cams, big down pipe, fuel pump, intercooler, all the piping but it’s pretty standard for an EVO, makes about 400 wheel.”
The car stands out because of its distinctive paint job as well as the signage and decals it has on it.
“It’s gone through about six iterations now,” he said. “Finished putting this new kit on with all the aero. So it’s got a flat floor, then a splitter that goes to the flat floor through a diffuser.”
A little while after the interview ended light rain began to fall. That was the cue for people to start leaving.

• This weekend MMX Racing, based in Northern California, came over and breathed new life in the Stead Motocross track. It has been dark for years and is located about a mile and a half past the go-kart track on the dirt extension of Lemmon Drive.
The place was packed as many were racing there for the first time or getting reacquainted with a track they had raced on before.

According to MMX they are planning four events for the track and this first one was part of the Summer Sundayz series.
