RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: AUG. 28 TO 31

CAR MEETS:

Thursday is when the weekend gets rolling at Kim’s Donut and Tea House.

• Thursday morning begins at 8 a.m. when Kim’s Kruisers assemble at Kim’s Donut and Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S.395 North in Gardnerville.

The final Carson Thursday Night Cruise for this summer is this week.
  • The final Thursday Night Cruise in Carson City is this week. Times are 5 to 7 p.m. and the meeting place is at the Empire Ranch Golf Course.
On Saturday Obsolete Irons has the Last Bash car show.

• Friday is an off day but things get going at 8 a.m. Saturday when Obsolete Irons presents the Last Bash. Awards are at 2 p.m. and the location is at the Lazy 5 Regional Park at 7100 Pyramid Way, Sparks.

Hot Rod Nights has a evening car show at Sonic.
  • That same day, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Hot Rod Nights present a Car Show at Sonic. Location is 6250 South Virginia Street.
Saturday evening Carson Cars & Coffee meets at the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand.
  • To the South, starting at 7 p.m., Carson Cars & Coffee has a meet. Location is the Dutch Brothers coffee stand located by the Carson Mall.

• There are three events on the final Sunday of the month.

Bully’s & Pizze Factory are hosting this event.
  • Up in Spanish Springs, starting at 10 a.m. there is the Fill the Void Car and Motorcycle Benefit Show & Shine. The event is co-hosted by Bully’s and the Pizza Factory and there is a 50/50 Raffle.
Summit Racing has a cruise-in Sunday afternoon.
  • Then after Fill the Void ends Summit Racing has another cruise-ins. Times are 1:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. and the location is East Glendale in Sparks.
Sparks Cars & Coffee meets Sunday morning.
  • That morning, starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee meets. Location is by the Starbucks off Disc Drive in Sparks.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

The promoter announced he’s had to cancel the rest of the season at Diamond Mountain Speedway.

The promoter put this message out and is starting to look toward next season. If anyone wants to sign on as a sponsor they would appreciate the help.

There is a Friday/Saturday racing show here.

• There is one oval track in action this weekend. Winnemucca Regional Raceway has a show Friday and Saturday nights. Racing should start around 6 p.m. each night.

PRACTICE & RACING (MOTOCROSS):

If anyone is able to please try and attend this. Sorry for the short notice.

• Sorry this notice is so late but if live close to this are and you ride motocross or anything else, you might be interested to attend this event. What happens could determine the fate of the Prairie City SVRA.

Here is this weekend’s schedule for REP Racing MX.

• Here is the schedule for REP Racing MX this weekend. Locally the Sandbox MX will have practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday.

Round 4 of the SXS series is Saturday..

• E Street MX Park has a busy weekend. Saturday is round 4 of the SXS series. Gates open at 6:30 a.m.

There is open practice on Sunday.
  • There is open practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday with the front and back tracks being used.
Here is this weekend’s practice schedule for MMX Racing.

• MMX Racing is also busy with open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Saturday’s practice is from 9 until 2 p.m. while Sunday’s times are 9 until 3 on the two tracks listed.

E Street has the next round of Friday Night Under the Lights series.
  • On Friday the track is closed for practice as it hosts Round 4 of the Friday Night Under the Lights series. Registration is now open.
The OTHG Bay chapter has two days of racing this weekend.

• The Bay Over The Hill Gang chapter is hosting one day of practice and two days of racing at the Argyll MX track.

RACING (NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL):

Here is this weekend’s NASCAR schedule.

• Okay so most races with NASCAR are behind pay walls. The only possible exceptions are events on the CW Network, which is part of some cable service. So as usual here is the schedule

Friday and Saturday are pretty empty so that’s a good time to check out www.floracing.com, or www.youtube.com for highlights of races you may have missed.

• Indy Car has its final weekend of this season. Fox Sports 1 at 7:30 a.m. Saturday has the NTT Indy Car practice 1 then at 11 a.m. Fox Sports 2 has Indy Car qualifications followed at 1:30 with highline and final practice.

• Sunday starts at 5:55 a.m. when ESPN airs the Formula 1 race from Zandvoort. It’s close to the beach and on windy days sand can actually blow across part of the track.

  • This is a huge weekend for those that race in the NHRA. The U.S. Nationals sets each field for the chase to the championships. Fox Sports 1 has Qualifying Show #1 at 9:30 a.m.
Sunday at the NHRA U.S. Nationals is when the All Star Call Out happens.
  • Then at 2 p.m. the network airs the Funny Car All-Star Callout followed at 3:30 p.m. by Qualifying Show #2.
  • Then at 11:30 a.m. FOX, on a same day – delayed basis airs the season ending Indy Car race from Nashville.
The U.S. Nationals sets the fields for the run to the championships.

• The weekend goes into Monday as NHRA finals continue. At 9 a.m. ox Sports has Round 1 of the finals. Then at 11 a.m. FOX airs the final runs from the U.S. Nationals.

That’s it for this weekend folks. If possible go out and see a race, if not then visit one of the car shows. You’ll meet some great people not matter what you choose.
