RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: SEPT. 4 TO 7

RENO, NV (Sept. 3) — The last few weeks of summer are just ahead of us as we head into fall. More car meets yet to happen as well as the start of tracks in the region ending there seasons while motorcycle racing continues.

CAR MEETS:

Nothing like a donut and coffee at Kim’s to get the weekend started.

• Kim’s Kruisers start the weekend at 8 a.m. Thursday morning. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• Friday is an empty day but do check Carson Cars & Coffee’s Face Book page as many times they have pop up events.

Genoa, or Mormon Station will be a busy place Saturday with the 5th annual Customs & Classics show.

• Saturday has two car meets. To the south, from 9 until 3 p.m., it’s the 5th annual Custom & Classics Car Show in Mormon Station. That’s downtown Genoa and there will be music, dash plaques and a 50/50 Raffle.

Chester, California has the Street Rod Extravaganza on Saturday.
  • To the north the town of Chester, located west of Susanville is having the 37th Annual Street Rod Extravaganza at the Community Park. Times are 9 until 2 p.m. and it’s a two-hour drive from Reno.

• Sunday has three events.

Reno Cars & Coffee meets Sunday morning.
  • Reno Cars & Coffee meets, from 10 until noon by the Human Bean Coffee stand located close to the corner of Keitzke and Moana Lanes.
Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets Sunday morning.
  • Not far away, at the same time, Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets by the Human Bean Coffee stand located on the corner of Longley Lane and South McCarran. It was announced they will now only meet on the first Saturday of the month.
On Sunday the final Brunch ‘N Classics Cruise-In for this year will be at Baldini’s.
  • Over at Baldini’s Casino the Northern Nevada Classics has the grand finale of the Brunch N’ Classics Show ‘N Shine. Times are 11 until 2 p.m., there are trophies to be won, a 50/50 drawing and music.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Top Gun Dragstrip is back in action this Friday night.

• Top Gun Dragstrip has $5 Friday Night Drags, a great time to see what a person’s car can do or race one of your friends. While spectators are $5 those racing have a tech inspection that costs $30. Gates open at 4 p.m. with racing from 5 until midnight.

Tonopah Speedway ends it season with a Friday/Saturday show.

• Tonopah Speedway ends its season with a Friday/Saturday show. Racing should begin around 6 in the evening.

Lovelock Speedway ends its season Saturday with NAPA Night.

• Lovelock Speedway ends its season Saturday with NAPA Night at the Races. Gates open at 3 p.m., grandstands at 5 p.m. and there is a 6 p.m. start to the show.

Legacy Racing Association is in Cedar City, Utah for a Saturday event.

• To the east, at Cedar City, Utah, it’s the Dirt Rebelution stage by Legacy Racing Association. The course is technical and Motorcycles, Quads and UTV’s will be racing with Saturday being race day while awards are handed out that evening.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

This week’s MRANN race is hosted by the Whatever MC. The event honors the memory of suspension expert Gil Greive.

• This weekend the Whatever MC stages the Triple G. Grand Prix in Battle Mountain as part of the MRANN series. The event honors the memory of Gil Greive, who was an expert at setting suspensions for the racers. 

Friday is when the Stacys Race plus other events. Sunday is a full day starting with the Pee Wees while the Big Bike run late in the afternoon and the day ends with Team Mini Bike Races.

Here is this week’s schedule for REP Racing MX.

• Here is the weekend schedule for REP Racing MX. Riverfront MX is busy with practice from 5 until 10 p.m. both Thursday and Friday. Saturday is Round 2 of the Saturday night races is run and Sunday, from 8 until 1p.m. is DCMX Ride Days.

  • PC/MX has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday at the Sandbox MX in Fernley is a ride day for two groups.
  • The Sandbox MX in Fernley has a split schedule. Saturday fro 9 until 2 p.m. is OTMX/OTHG Ride day. Then Sunday, as shown on the schedule, from 8 until 1 p.m. has open practice.
MMX Racing has practice this weekend and Thursday.

• MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Thursday on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Saturday with the same times ads the Main track to the mix. Sunday’s times are 9 until 3 p.m. with the Vintage track being added so all four tracks are being used.

E Street MX Park is hosting the current round of the Summer Sundayz series.

• E Street MX Park is hosting Round 7 of this year’s P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series. Saturday is for practice while Sunday is race day.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

Here is this weekend’s NASCAR schedule.

• Once again all the NASCAR races are on Pay Walls although the CW network might be part of cable and maybe over the air. If one can’t see them www.youtube.com should have highlights of all the races.

• Thursday, at 5 p.m. www.mavtv.com has highlights from the British Touring Car championship.

• Friday, with one exception, is an empty day. A good time to check out www.flowracing,com, www.youtube.com and www.mavtv.com as they all have other events.

• Saturday at 5:55 a.m. is when Fox Sports 1 has the MotoGP Sprint race from Catalunya.

This week’s MotoGP race is from Catalunya.

• Sunday, starting at 4:30 a.m. is when Fox Sports 1 airs the MotoGP race from Catalunya. Photo courtesy speedcafe.com.

  • Then at 5:545 a.m. ESPN broadcasts the Formula 1 race from Monza. The Grand Prix of Italy uses one of the classic courses that is very fast.

Registration is open for the next round of the fall BBMX season.

• For those racing in the Battleborn MX series registration is open for the second round of the fall season. This time the series moves to the track in Winnemucca, close to the speedway out there.

Davey’s American Racing is found on Face Book. His focus is on western oval tracks as well as national series.

Davey’s American Racing tracks many series and can be found on Face Book.

He also posts schedules for various tracks and there related subjects.
