• RENO, NV (Dec. 14) — With two weeks to go before Santa’s big ride there were car meets this weekend and two of them were in Reno. On the racing side we’re deep in the Re-Run Zone but that will end just after New Year’s.
• On Saturday morning the Vintage Euro Cars & Coffee had its monthly meet. They gather on the second Saturday of the month by new Starbucks at the south end of the Summit Mall.

This time the club also had a box as they were collecting unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots run by the Marine Corps Reserve.

There were a couple of long rows of various brands of cars.

Over on another row two Ferrari’s were parked side by side. One in the traditional red while the sedan beside it was in black.

Contrast is always part of any Cars & Coffee meet. Part of one row had a Citron beside an Alfa Romero sedan that was beside a Volvo station wagon.

Over on another row was a trio of BMW sedans. Two photographers were busy taking pictures of the cars
• On Sunday morning Sparks Cars & Coffee had their first meet of the month. It all happens by the Starbucks on Disc Drive at the south end of Spanish Springs.

There were several Chevy El Caminos on display. In fact the white one had a For Sale sign in its windshield.

Over on another row there was a immaculate restored 1934 Chevy Coupe. Owner Rich Lembi had it on display.
Asked about the car he said, “I’ve had it for 25 years, it wasn’t in that great of a condition when I got it but we got it done. There was a lot of work to be done, it took four years to do it but in today’s standards that not as much time as most people take with their cars.

“I had a lot of help so got it done in four years and I use it as a driver but not a daily driver. Don’t know how many miles it had when I got it as we took everything apart. Put a new engine in it, a 350, new frame, new rear end, new tranny, everything was redone on this car and it’s all disc brakes, all the way around.”

In another row there was a red Ferrari that was part of the exotic cars there.

Not far away there was another red Ferrari and both attracted their share of attention.

Another car attracting a lot of attention was a bright yellow Lazer 917. The owner explained it was built to resemble the Porsche 917 that raced at Le Mans. This one is on a VW frame and the owner installed a larger engine.

Keeping with the exotic theme there was a brand new Corvette ZO6 in one row. That had a lot of people taking pictures and talking about it.
Next Sunday will be the month’s second meet for Reno Cars & Coffee plus some others.
