RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: JAN. 8 TO 11

RENO, NV (Jan. 7) — Finally we’re emerging from the Re-Run Zone. This means more racing on the Internet and locally there are still car shows.

CAR MEETS:

Kim’s Kruisers meets Thursday morning.

Depending on the weather Kim’s Kruisers might get the weekend rolling starting around 8 a.m. on Thursday. Location is Kim’s Donut Shop &  Tea House at 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

Sparks Cars & Coffee meets Sunday morning.

• Only one meet scheduled for this weekend and that’s when Sparks Cars & Coffee gets together onkk Sunday. Time is 10 a.m. and location is by the Starbucks located on Disk Drive.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Northern Nevada Kart Club has its awards banquet Saturday at the Atlantis.

• On Saturday the Northern Nevada Kart Club has its 2025 Checkered Flag Celebration at the Atlantis Casino. There many awards and at the end the club will award the Karter of he Year trophy.

• All the oval tracks in our region are still closed for the winter. Things usually get going in late March.

Starting next week is the Parket 400 off-road race.

• To the south next week, starting on the 14th, is the annual Parker 400 off road race outside of Parker, Arizona.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

• The biggest news this week is the return of the SMX World Championship Super Cross. It’s time for Anaheim 1 in Southern California.

One local, Lux Turner from Gardnerville, hopes to make the show. He’s competing in the 250 West group. Want to wish him the very best.

Due to run off REP Racing MX has a reduced schedule this weekend.

• Over the hill, due to rising river flow both Riverfront MX and PC MX are closed. However the Sandbox MX in Fernley is open. 

Saturday is a ride day f DCMX. One has to be a member to participate.

Saturday from 10 until 3 p.m. is DCMX Ride Day.  One has to join the group to participate. Sunday, from 10 until 3 p.m. its open practice at the track.

E Street MX Park has practice Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

• E Street MX Park from 9 until 2 p.m. has open practice Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Both the front and back courses will be used.

MMX Racing hosts the postponed round of this year’s Frigid 8 series.

• MMX Racing has a busy weekend. The first round of the Frigid 8 Winter Series has been rescheduled.

MMX Racing is hosting racing and having practice on its tracks.

Thursday, from 9 until 2 p.m. the Main and Kid’s tracks are for Open Practice.

Saturday, from 9 until 2 there is race practice on the Main and regular practice on the Sand and Kid’s tracks. Sunday, from 9 until 2 p.m. has the race on the Main and regular practice on the Sand and Kid’s Tracks.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

Dakar Rally is still going on through next week.

• Thursday, starting a 4 p.m. www.racer.com will show Stage 5 from the Dakar Rally. Over on www.youtube.com one can see highlights from each stage,

At 6 p.m. Racer will show V8 Supercars highlights from the Gold Coast in Australia.

• Friday is empty but Racer might show more from the Dakar Rally and You Tube will have more highlights.

• Saturday is when Round 1 of the AMA Supercross happens. 

• Sunday is another slow day but www.youtube.com should have highlights from the Supercross event as well as from the Dakar Rally.

The Chili Bowl Nationals starts Monday and can be seen live on www.floracing.com.

• Starting Monday, www.floracing.com starts broadcasting the Chili Bowl Nationals from Tulsa. This time it will be the winged and non-winged Midgets in a weeklong event.

That’s it for the first full week of 2026. As I mentioned we are emerging from the R-Run Zone and heading into the sunlight. Very soon green flags will be waving, gates dropping and banners being dropped.
