RENO, NV (April 26) — The weekend had several events in our region including three locally. And while the weather was on the cool side the turn out was great for every event.
• On Friday the Reno Bike Community assembled for its Friday night ride. These happen every Friday evening if the weather is good as the group assembles at the Maverick on the corner of Sutro and North McCarran.
The group now has two organizers and one of them is Aca Napora is one of them.
Asked about any changes he said, “It’s going to stay the same way, as its comfortable for all riders to come, all different bikes, doesn’t matter where you come from. You could ride a moped and a guy came in with one just now.
“You could have a 250, you could have an 1,100 as we don’t discriminate. We’re open to everybody, we’re kind to everybody and help people that work on their bikes.”
He and his lady friend rode in on her bike.
Asked about the bike, Kristina Leroy said, “It’s a 2025 Kawasaki Ninja, and I bought it in Carson City.”
There was a long line of bikes and around 7 p.m. it was kickstands up as the group moved out for their ride.
• Saturday evening, around 6 p.m., there was a meet at the Sonic Drive In on South Virginia. It’s located across the street from the shopping center Whole Foods is located in.
There was a nice variety of cars including Jeep, two Roadsters, a Corvette and pick up trucks.
As people arrived they filled up the parking spaces in the lot and soon took over the spaces by the Sonic.
• Sunday morning is when Sparks Cars & Coffee had its second meet of the month. Despite the cool weather the turn was great.
There were all types of cars and two red road warriors were parked next to each other. One was a Ducati Panine V2 while the other was a Corvette.
There were also some classics in another row. One was a VW next to a Fiero, then a Camaro and another Fiero.
One Dodge Ram that usually shows up is owned by Kawika Rios. Asked about the truck he said, “It’s RAM CRX, has a 6.2 Hellcat in it. It’s pretty much stock other than I did the intake and exhaust, I didn’t want to void the warrantee. Its all wheel drive all the time so you can’t turn it off.”
Asked how it drives he said, “It drives good, I love it and had it for about two years.”
Parked next to the truck was a car owned by Joshua Robles.
“It’s a 2022 Hellcat Charger Wide Body with 717 hundred horse power. I modified the exhaust, oil catch can, and an intake. It’s going to get a lower pulley and a tune in the next four months.”
Asked how it drives he said, “Drives like a beast, like a Hellcat as you would expect it would. It’s my dream car and had to wait until I was 39 to buy it.”
Not too far away was another car, a SRT with another special paint job.
One thing you see at these meets are classic cars that owners give new life to. Over on row there were two good examples of this with an Oldsmobile and Buick sedan parked next to each other.
Next week is when May begins and there are more car meets as well as motorcycle cruises scheduled.
OTHER RACING NEWS
•Trucks and Tacos of Northern Nevada meets at 6:30 on Tuesday evening. This week they are at Ana’s Taco Grill at 1485 Geiger Grade, almost across the street from a church.
• Down in Dayton, on Tuesday, there is Dessert in the Desert hosted by the Pharoahs. Location is Scoop or Two, 720 Highway 50 East. There will be Muscle Cars, Rad Rods and Imports as well as music.
• This Wednesday Bike Night at PJ&CO, that starts around 5:30, not only will have bikes on display but Stadium GP will be there. They will have Official Volunteer Credentials as well as swag to pickup.
• The Reno Bike Group is meeting Wednesday at Chihuahuas Cantino & Grill. Meet starts at 6 p.m. and the location is 7111 South Virginia off of South Meadows.
• Tickets for the StadiumGP, that runs from May 15 to 16 are on sale now. The site is www.stadiumgp.com.
• I believe there is still a need for volunteers to help with the Summer Salute Car show. The event is on May 23rd and contact information is at the bottom of the flyer.
• Along with the Summer Salute Car Show, which benefits veteran’s, there is a Pinup Girl Contest. If interested contact information is on the flyer.
• At this writing the Sandbox MX in Fernley is still closed. They need enough staff to safely run events as well as a Dozer Operator.
– This is the Sandbox MX want ad and the contact information is on it. Hope they can enough people to start having practice sessions, as well as some races again.
