RENO, NV (May 10) — There were several car meets plus a block party on this weekend. All the events were blessed with almost summer like weather.

• Friday started the two-day Hot August Nights Spring Fever. Everything was in the Casino’s west parking lot.

There was a long row of vendors selling about anything people might want. That included HAN t-shirts and other things as well.

Over at one end was a dragster, which was a ’41 Willys and next to it was a very nice T-Bucket. Not far away was a stand the featured continues entertainment

Over in the next row were a pair of restored Chevy’s. One was a two-door sedan while the other an early Nomad station wagon.
• Saturday afternoon Big Valley Honda hosted a block part for the upcoming Stadium GP. Radio station KOZZ with DJ Max Volume was also at the party.

One of the vendors not only brought but also a dragster. Starting it up and revving the motor was a delight for one youngster.

Promoter Tina Honea was also present and there was a canopy that featured some of the types of bike racing in the event.
Asked about the event she said, “Registration is going great, we already have a couple of classes completely full so we have a waiting list for them. The big thing is that the kids are showing up this year, a lot more kids.
“We’re going to have a couple of big names and an Arenacross champion, Ryan Breeze and they will be his first time racing Stadium GP.”
She also mentioned that returning are Austin Politelli and Open Pro champion Michael Hicks. The event runs for three days, two of feature racing.
“Thursday was have practice in the afternoon for the racers and in the evening at 7:30 we have kick off concert. The band this year is Fast Times, they are an 80’s Tribute Band from Hollywood.
Then after we have daytime practice and qualifying gates open Friday at 5 and the night show at 7. On Saturday gates open at 3 and we have a Vintage Bike Show, vendor row, lots of things happening, professional autograph signing and race starts at 7.”

Every motocross has a board showing the time left before the gates drop. Layne Kolbet, BVH General Manager, had one made with lights on all the edges. They will use this at the event.

Outside Big Valley Honda also had a large canopy that had several bikes on display. All in all it was a good show and lead into this event.
Currently the classes are filling up fast so to register or buy a ticket please go to www.stadiumgp.com.

• On Sunday, starting at 10 a.m., Sparks Cars & Coffee had it’s first meet of the month. Since it was Mother’s Day the turn out was a bit less than normal. Thanks to the drone work of Kawika V. Rios we have an overall image of the gathering.

There were several cars with their hoods up. Many times the motors have been cleaned and polished.
As usual there were a few vintage cars on display and one of them is owned by Joe Gandolifo. It’s green paint set it apart from other cars.

Asked it he said, “The car is a 1929 Model A Ford Cabrole rag top. It’s got a Vortec V-6 engine, a 700 R Transmission and a 9-inch Ford rear end.

“I just put a new top on it, went through everything, made sure everything was tight and working good. It’s a turnkey start, it’s all steel, has got wood in the doors and everything and I’ve had it about five years.

He added that the car is for sale. Right now he’s using a consignment place in Carson City.
Asked how it drives, he said, “Like a hard riding car. It’s all original, has banjo springs so it has a stiff suspension with a straight axel. It runs good down the road but you know when you hit a bump.:

There were a couple of motorcycles that joined the meet. One was a Honda Rune.

Not far away as a Harley Davidson also part of the meet.

One of the cars on display was a 1950’s era Ford Sedan. It was in great shape and even had the Ford V-8 although the air filter was modern.

One BMW owner brought a miniature version with a doll in it. Both are the same color and made quite a contrast.
Next Sunday Reno Jeeps & Coffee as well as Reno and Coffee have their second meet of the month.
