RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW

RENO, NV (June 3) — Great weather this first weekend in June will set the stage for several cruises, car meets and racing. Getting the summer of with a bang.

CAR MEETS & CRUISES:

• Thursday has a pair of cruises.

This evening there is a cruise in Carson City.
  • Down in Carson City there is the Thursday Night Cruise. Times are between 5 and 7 p.m. This week the meeting place is the Antique Mill on North Carson Street.
This cruise heads for great ice cream.
  • That same afternoon, starting around 4 p.m.,  is the Thursday Cruznite to the Chilcoot Frosty and Goodwins Geneal Store. From Reno take 395 North to Highway 70 then turn left and go over the hill.

• Friday is busy this week.

Over in Quincy this starts what will be a big show.
  • Down in Quincy, California it’s the 3rd annual Graffiti Night. Location is 60 Main Street, all vehicles welcome and there will be food as well as live music.
Reno Bike Community gathers at the Maverik Station then has a ride.
  • Closer to home, starting around 6 p.m. the Reno Bike Community gathers for its weekly ride. Location is at the Maveriks on the corner of Sutro Street and North McCarran. Kickstands up around 7 p.m.
Old Slammers of Reno meets at Northtowne then has a cruise.
  • Not far away at the Northtowne shopping area the Old Slammers of Reno, around 6:30 will gather. Then this VW group has a cruise.
It’s another Friday-Saturday double header for Carson Cars & Coffee.
  • Down in Carson City the Carson Cars & Coffee is going to have another Friday-Saturday double-header. Meeting time is 6:30 and the place is the Dutch Brothers Coffee Stand at 1231 South Carson Street.

• Saturday is a very busy day and there is a lot to choose from.

The big Show and Shine in Quincy is at the Fairgrounds staged by the Sierra Cascade Street Rodders.
  • Down at the Plumas Sierra County Fairgrounds,, located in East Quincy, they are having the 36th annual Sierra Cascade Street Rodde4s Show & Shine. Things get going around 8 am and it lasts for most of the day.
The High Desert AMC Car Club has a meet at the Legends Shopping Center.
  • The High Desert Car Club is hosting the Legends Car Show featuring American Motors Cars like Rambler, Gremlin and other models. Runs from 9 until 2 p.m. and is at the Legends Shopping area in Sparks.
The D&C Classic Garage is having their 6th annual Show & Shine.
  • Also starting at 9 a.m. is the 6th Annual Car Show & Shine hosted by the D&C Classic Garage. Location is 240 Freeport in Sparks
Fallon Cars & Coffee meets Saturday morning.
  • To the east Fallon Cars & Coffee has a meet from 8:30 to 11:30. Location is at the Walmart Parking Lot by the Nursery and the address is 2333 Hwy 50 East in Fallon.
This weekend is when the annual Lovelock Street Fever happens.
  • Further East is the annual Lovelock Street Fever Show & Shine. The show runs both Saturday and Sunday and there is a cruise Saturday afternoon. Location is by the Court House.
Starting at noon Need2Speed has another Kars & Karts show.
  • Up at the Northtowne Shopping the NEED2SPEED is having another KARS & KARTS Car meet & Patio Party. Things get going around noon.
When Need2Speed ends the Kyle Loftis Send Off cruise meets at the Maverik station.
  • Around 4 p.m., about the time the Need2Speed meet is ending 1320 Video has Kyle Loftis Send Off Cruise. Starts at the Maverik station then goes to the park at 5850 Las Brisas Blvd. in Reno where they will celebrate his life.
The Reno Evo Club meets Saturday evening.
  • The Reno EVO Club has a meet starting at 6 p.m. Applebees. Location is 4805 Kietzke Lane.

• Sunday is also busy this weekend. 

Reno Jeeps & Coffee meets Sunday morning.
  • Reno Jeeps & Coffee, starting at 10 a.m., meets at the Human Bean Coffee Stand located at the corner of Longley Land and South McCarran.
Reno Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month Sunday.
  • Not far away Reno Cars & Coffee has its first meet of the month. Starts at 10 a.m. by the Human Bean Coffee Stand located close to the corner of Kietzke and Moana Lanes.
Sunday is when the VDUB Hub of Reno meets for its Summer Fest.
  • The VDUB Hub of Northern Nevada, starting at 10 a.m., has a meet close to El Chino Tacos. Location is 1553 South Virginia Street.
Sunday afternoon is when Summit Racing Equipment hosts another Cruise-In.
  • That afternoon from 1 until 4 p.m. Summit Racing Equipment has another cruise in. Location is 960 East Glendale in Sparks.
This Sunday evening starts the Modelo Sunday Cruise.
  • – The weekend ends with Modelo Sunday Cruise In & Sip. Times are 5 until 9 p.m. and the location is 195 West Plumb Lane.

RACING, SHOW & PRACTICE (MOTORCYCLES):

This weekend is Street Vibrations Spring Rally.
  • Biggest local motorcycle event in the annual Street Vibrations Spring Rally. Starts on Friday and goes through Sunday. The location is in Virginia City.
  • There is no practice this weekend on the Motocross track at the Reno Fernley Raceway.
Two of REP Racing MX tracks has practice this weekend.
  • While Prairie City is still closed due to Hangtown,  REP Racing has practice at Riverfront MX. Thursday is for Big Bikes, Friday Minis only and Sunday is open practice The Sandbox MX in Fernley has open practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
MMX Racing has practice this weekend.
  • MMX Racing has practice from 9 until 2 p.m. Saturday and the Sand and Kid’s tracks. On Sunday, from 9 until 3 p.m. both the Main and Vintage tracks are added to the mix.
E-Street MX Park is closed Saturday but has practice on Sunday.

 – E-Street MX Park is closed Saturday but on Sunday there is practice from 9 until 2 p.m. on the front and back tracks.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

Here is this week’s NASCAR schedule.

• Once again all the NASCAR Races are behind a pay wall. Just remember www.youtube.com has highlights after the races are finished.

• This week SCORE International is hosting the 58th annual BAJA 500. 

This week is when SCORE International is running the 58th BAJA 500.
  • The Baja 500 is a single loop race starting and finishing at Ensenada.

• Biggest race in our region is the annual Hangtown Classic. It’s three days of action starting with the Amateurs.

  • Friday and Saturday is when the Women’s Motocross Championship happens. Gardnerville native Lala Turner should be competing in this event.
  • On Saturday the second round of the AMA Pro Motocross series happens. It uses the two-moto format and Lux Turner, who also is a Gardnerville native, will be racing.

• On Thursday at 9 a.m. Racer will carry Baja 500 qualifying. At 3p.m. Fox Sports has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour followed by Speed.

• On Friday at 8 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has NHRA qualifying from the New England Nationals. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports has ARCA Racing from Michigan.

• Saturday at 5:55 a.m. Fox Sports 2 has MotoGP Sprint racing from Hungary. And at 6:25 a.m. Apple TV has Formula 1 Qualifying from Monaco.

  • Peacock at 10 a.m. has Race Day live then at 1 p.m. they air the Hangtown Classic. This broadcast is only the pros.

• Sunday starts at 4:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 2 has the MotoGPrace from Hungary.

This Sunday is when Formula 1 races in Monaco.
  • At 4:30 a.m. Apple has the Grand Prix of Monaco. Racers compete on a track that’s been used since the 1920 and as a result drivers must be inch perfect.

  • At noon FOX has the NHRA New England Nationals from Epping, New Hampshire. The series is at the New England Dragway.
Here is this weekend’s Indy Car schedule.
  • Indy Car is in Madison, Wisconsin this weekend. Fox will carry the race but Saturday but the NXT race is carried by Fox Sports 1.

NNKC reopens its newly repaved track Saturday morning.

Saturday morning the Northern Nevada Kart Club has the grand opening of the newly paved and reconfigured Desert Park Raceway. It’s about a quarter mile along the dirt extension of Lemmon Drive.

• Club Rowdy is planing another drifting weekend at the Reno-Fernley Raceway. Right now they need more entries.
