RENO, NV (July 8) — Summer’s heat is finally here. The car meets and racing basket is full and there is a lot to see this weekend.
CAR MEETS:
• This Thursday there are three car events:

- In the morning, around 8 a.m. Kim’s Cruisers meet at Kim’s Donut and Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

- If you like ice cream there is an informal cruise, from 4 until 7 p.m., to Chilcoot Frosty and Goodwins general Store. Take 395 north, turn west on Highway 70, go over the hill and its by the turn off to Frenchman’s Lake.

- To the south the Thursday Night Cruise, from 5 until 7 p.m., stats at Moundhouse Mopars, #5 Brown Drive.
• Friday has five events although one of them combines with the last one.

- The Lowrider Cruise Night has been moved to Friday. The new schedule is in the poster. Location is still El Original Tacos Tijuana at 2201 Prater Way in Sparks.

- Starting after 6 p.m. at the Maverik Station on the corner or Sutro and North McCarran, the Reno Bike Community will gather. Then at 7 its kickstands up and the weekly ride starts.

- Over at the Northtowne parking lot around 7 p.m. Old Slammers of Reno meet. The weekly cruise starts later.

- This week it’s the Order of the Eastern Star Downtown Reviival. The Kick Off party is from 5:30 until 8:30 at the Carson Mall on the south end of town.

- Carson Cars will meet at the usual place but they will be part of the Kick Off Party and start earlier.
- • Saturday has six events listed:

- Pit Shops has their Summer Torque Fest car and bike show. Registration starts at 8 a.m. and the location is the Pit Shop Automotive Repair at 1320 Freeport Blvd, Unit 111 in Sparks.

- Vintage Euro Cars & Coffee, starting at 9 a.m., has their monthly meet. Location is south of Doughboys Donuts at 57 Damonte Ranch Parkway.

- To the south, it’s the annual Order of the Eastern Star Downtown Revival in downtown Carson City. The show starts at 9 a.m.

+ For the early birds, there is a pancake breakfast from 7 until 11 a.m. at the Carson Lodge. Location is 113 E. Washington Street.

- Here in Reno, from 4 until 6 p.m., the Reno/Sparks Bikes & Burgers are meeting at Juicy’s Giant Hamburgers. Location is 3981 South McCarren.

- Chihuahua’s Cantina & Grill has a Show & Shine Car Meet. Times are 6 until 9 p.m. and the location at 7111 S. Virginia Street in Reno.

- Down south Carson Cars & Coffee has its usual meet on Saturday. Starts at 6:30 by the Dutch Bros Coffee stand at 1231 South Carson Street.

- There is a very different meet at Crazy D’s Hot Chicken on Saturday. Starting at 7 p.m. it’s Wyatt’s Loud & Rowdy Sent Off, a celebration of his life. Location is 3652 South Virginia Street.
• Sunday has three events so things are a little lighter:

- Starting at 10 a.m. Sparks Cars & Coffee has its meet at the Starbucks at 171 Disc Drive. Take Pyramid north, go over the hill and the first signal is Disc, go down the hill to the signal and you’ll see the Starbucks sign.

- On Sunday the National Automobile Museum will have the next round of the Museum Cup Series. This week cars from Fernley Klazzic Kruizers will be on display, times are 10 until 4 p.m.

- Sunday ends with the Modelo Sunday’s Cruise In Kickback. Times are 5 until 9 p.m. and the location is 195 W. Plumb in Reno.
RACING (4-WHEEL):
• There are several events this weekend:

- The Northern Nevada Kart Club is having a double header Saturday and Sunday. Driver’s meeting is at 8 a.m. and both days will have a full schedule ending with the main events for each class.

- Saturday, from 2 until 11 p.m., it’s Drift Night at the Reno-Fernley Raceway. Directions are go to Fernley, turn south on 95A, go past the airport and you’ll see the sign and track entrance.

- Top Gun Dragstrip is having Night Drags this weekend. Friday, starting at 8 p.m. is ET #6 while Saturday, starting at the same time, is ET #7. Apparently there is no racing on Sunday.

- To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway has two nights of racing. Both Friday and Saturday have 7 p.m. start times.

- To the south and east Tonopah Speedway is hosting the Jim Marsh Classic. Racing happens both Friday and Saturday, starting a 7 p.m., with extra money for two of the tracks.
RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

- Sadly we are losing a long time flat track event that usually happens in late August. Got word that Robert Hansen won’t be doing the Outlaw Flat Trac event any more.

- I’m attaching his letter here. I’ve reported his events in Carson City, when he had Arenacross in Reno almost all of the flat track events at the Carson Fair Grounds. Sad to see him go but glad he gave it a long run.

- Due to the expected heat Reno-Fernley Raceway’s Motocross track canceled its practice for this weekend.

- AHRMA, on Saturday and Sunday is hosting the Donner National Trials event. Saturday’s trial begins at noon while it’s a 10 a.m. start for Sunday’s trial. It will also be cooler up there.

- REP Racing has practice on two of its tracks. They are still looking for help to operate the Sandbox MX in Fernley.
+ Riverfront has Big Bike Night on Thursday from 5 until 10 p.m. on Thursday and at those same times for Friday night’s Mini Night. Sunday from 8 until 1 p.m. is open practice.
+ PCMX has practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

- MMX Racing is very busy this weekend with two different races. There is practice for those not racing from 8 until 1 Saturday on the Sand and Kids tracks. On Sunday, for those not racing practice is from 8 until 2 on the Sand and Kid’s tracks.

+ Friday is round 2 of the Friday Nights Under the Lights race. There is a Kid Class surprise as well as a Pro-Am Race.

+ Sunday is Round 3 of the Summer Sundayz series. There is practice on the main track Saturday, a short practice Sunday before the racing begins.

• E-Street MX Park has an Sierra Old Timers ride day from 8 until 1 p.m. Saturday. Then Sunday, from 8 until 1 p.m. it’s open practice.
RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

• Here is the weekend schedule for NASCAR. If one doesn’t want to pay for this www.youtube.com has highlights of the races after they occur.
• On Thursday Fox Sports 1, starting at 3 p.m. has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour followed by Speed.
• Friday is pretty slim but Fox Sports 2 has the ARCA race from Lime Rock. There are races toe seen on www.floracing.com, www.dirtvision.com, www.mavtv.com and of course www.youtube.com.
• Saturday begins at 5:55 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the MotoGP Spring from Germany.

- Peacock comes on at 7 a.m. with Raceway Live then at 10 a.m. airs the AMA Pro Motocross race from Southwick.
- At 10 a.m. Fox Sports 1 airs the Craftsman Trucks race from Lime Rock. Then at 4 p.m. CW has the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series racing in Atlanta.

• Sunday begins at 4:30 a.m. when Fox Sports has MotoGP from Germany.
- Peacock comes on at 11 a.m. with the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car race from Canada. Then at 3 p.m. TNT has the NASCAR Cup event from Atlanta.
That’s it for this weekend folks. Going to be a hot one so be careful when you’re outside. If possible be sure to attend a race or car meet as you’ll meet some wonderful people there.
