RACING, CAR MEETS & CRUISES: JULY 16 TO 20

RENO, NV (July 15) — Another full weekend ahead of with car meets, oval track racing as well as a whole bunch on TV.  Summer is here.

CAR MEETS:• This week there are five things going on Thursday.

Kim’s Cruisers start the weekend.
  • The morning begins when Kim’s Cruisers meet around 8 a.m. at Kim’s Donuts and Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. Highway 395 North in Gardnerville.
Like ice cream? This is the cruise to be in.
  • Starting around 4 p.m. there is the weekly Thursday Cruznite to the Chilcoot Frosty and Goodwin’s General Store. Take 395 north out of Reno, turn onto Highway 70, go over the hill and its at the turnoff to Frenchman’s Lake.
There is a Thursday Night Cruise in Carson City.
  • In Carson City there is the Thursday Night Cruise, from 5 until 7 and this week everyone meets at Ace Hardware on Topsy Lane.
There are three nights of Mayhem at the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

– Thursday is when Simerson Events has Mayhem Nation at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for three evenings of mayhem.

Thursday Night Tunder benefits Moms on the Run.

– For the biker crowd, Pinocchio’s Bar and Grill starts Thursday Night Thunder. It benefits Mom’s on the Run, starts at 6 p.m. and the location is 5995 South Virginia Street in Reno.

• Friday has four events happening in the evening:

Fernley Friday Night Cruise is back.
  • Starting at 6 p.m. it’s Fernley’s Friday Night Cruise. They go back and forth on Main Street.
This is the route for the Friday night cruise.
  • Around 6:30 the Reno Bike Community meets at the Maverik station at the corner of Sutro and North McCarran. Kickstands up around 7 and this time the ride ends up in Fernley.
Carson Cars & Coffee meets Friday evening.
  • To the south a 6:30 Carson Cars & Coffee meets at the Dutch Bros Coffee. Location is 1231 S. Carson Street.
  • Around 7 p.m. Old Slammers of Reno, a VW group, meets in the parking lot at Northtowne Shopping area. Their cruise starts around 7 p.m.
Old Slammers of Reno changed their site’s picture to honor two members they lost.
  • The group recently changed their site’s photo to honor two members that died in an accident in Dayton a couple of weeks ago. 

• Saturday has five happenings:

They are hosting a car show at the Cowboy Fast Draw happening.
  • Out in Fallon, starting a 8:30 a.m., there is the Cowboy Fast Draw Car Show. Its presented by the Rustoration Garage. Location is the 3C Events Center at the Fair Grounds.
Out in Verdi its Jim Dobbas Days.
  • Over in Verdi it’s the Jim Dobbas Days. Starts at 9 a.m. and the location is 1365 Quilici Ranch Road.
The Silver Barons MC is celebrating their anniversary in Virginia City.
  • Up in Virginia Cty, stating at 10 a.m., is a celebration marking the Silver Baron’s Anniversary. Location is the Virginia City Jerky Company at 204 South C Street.
There is a celebration of life to honor Stephen Kline at the Arlington Saloon.
  • On at serious note, starting at 2 p.m. there is a ride and fundraiser to remember Stephen Kline. Location is at Arlington Saloon, 100 N. Arlington Avenue in Reno.
Carson Cars & Coffee meets Saturday.
  • The day ends when Carson Cars & Coffee has its Saturday meet. Meet starts at 6:30 and the location is the Dutch Bros Coffee by the Carson Mall.

• There are four events on Sunday.

Reno Jeeps & Coffee hosts its Hunter Lake Run on Sunday.
  • Things get going when Reno Jeeps & Coffee meet at 9 a.m. for the Hunter Lake Run. Meeting place is the Starbucks at 4798 Caughlin Parkway.
Reno Cars & Coffee meets this Sunday.
  • Reno Cars & Coffee meets at 10 a.m. by between the Human Bean Coffee Stand and Cal Ranch. Parking lot is close to the corner of Moana and Keitzke Lanes.
Fernley Klazzic Kruizers will cruise to the Sonic in Fallon.
  • To the east, starting at 11 a.m. Ferenley Klazzic Kruizers meet then cruise over to the Sonic in Fallon. One can either cruise or meet at Sonic.
This Sunday’s Cruise-in at Summit is Dirt Racing Takeover.
  • This Summit Racing Equipment in Sparks has a different twist to its normal Cruise-In. Times are 1 to 4 p.m. and they are asking for race cars to join the care and trucks that usually show up. So this time it’s called the Dirt Racing Takeover.
Great way to end a Sunday.
  • The day ends at 5 p.m. with Model Sunday’s Cruise In and Kickback. Location is 195 W. Plumb Lane.
Another Pizzava Cruist-In to start dthe week.

• This week there is a Monday event. It’s Pizzawa Classic Nights presented by Northern Nevada Classics. Times are 5 to7 p.m. and the location is 670 East Prater Way in Sparks.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Amber Rose made this oval track schedule.

• I want to give a special shout out to Amber Rose. She collected and produced this full schedule that even includes Tonopah Speedway. Way to go Amber.

Reno SCCA is in action this Saturday and Sunday.
  • Reno SCCA is hosting rounds 7 & 8 of its Solo competition. They race the clock through a course trying not to hit any cones. Saturday and Sunday start at 8 a.m. and the location is the Regional Public Safety Training Center at 5190 Spectrum Blvd, #3903.
There is racing Friday and Saturday nights at Summit Raceway.
  • Summit Raceway in Elko has a Friday/Saturday show. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 7 p.m. each night.
Lovelock Speedway races this Saturday.
  • Saturday night Lovelock Speedway presents Wild West Tire Night at the Races. Racing starts at 6 p.m. and directions are go to the Court House, turn right, follow the road until you see the sign. Turn left, after a few miles you’ll see the track on your right and the sign for the turn off. It’s paved all the way to the track.
Nor Cal Rock Racing has a two-day event this weekend.
  • Over the hill at Prairie City SVRA in Rancho Cordova it’s the Norcal Throwdown presented by Nor Cal Rock Racing.

RACING & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

REP Racing has two tracks going and is working on getting the Sandbox up and running.

• REP Racing has a full schedule on two of its tracks. They are currently interviewing for someone to operate the Sandbox MX track.

MMX Racing has a busy weekend ahead of it.

• MMX Racing has practice Saturday and Sunday. Times are 8 until 1 p.m. on the Front and Back tracks.

This Friday is the next Racing Under the Lights event.

MMX is busy this weekend. Starts with round 4 of the Friday Night Under the Lights series. 

E Street MX Park has practice this weekend on both tracks.
  • E Street MX Park has practice this weekend on the front and back tracks.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

Here is this weekend’s NASCAR Schedule.

• NASCAR is returning to one of the original bullrings at North Wilkesboro. Sadly all the events are behind a pay wall but www.youtube.com will have highlights after the races.

• Thursday at 7: 30 a.m. Apple TV will air Formula 1 Weekend Warm-up from Spa. 

  • At 3:30 p.m. Fox Sports has Speed then at 4 p.m. Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour.

• Friday starts early when at 4:10 a.m. Apple TV has Formula 1 practice then at 7:40 a.m. the second practice from Spa.

• Saturday starts at 3:10 a.m. when Apple TV has Formula 1 practice #3 then at 6:25 a.m. they show qualifying.

  • The week the AMA Pro Motocross series is in Millville, Minnesota at the Spring Creek MX Park. Peacock at 8 a.m. has Race Day Live then at 11 a.m. the racing.
  • FOX comes on at noon with Indy Car qualifying from Nashville. Then at 5 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has PSM All-Star Call Out as the NHRA series visits Sonoma Raceway.
Formula1 races at the classic course at Spa Belgian.

• Sunday begins at 4:50 a.m. when Apple TV broadcasts the Formula 1 race from the classic course at Spa.

  • Then at 7 a.m. Fox Sports has Qualifying Show #1 then at 7 p.m., on a delayed basis, the network airs the final rounds of the DENSO Sonoma Nationals.

  • Earlier in the afternoon at 2:30 p.m. FOX has the Indy Car race from Music City, Nashville. At 4 p.m. the TNT network has the NASCAR Cup race from North Wilkesboro.
