RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: JULY 23 TO 26

RENO, NV (July 23)— Summer is here and we’re almost to August. However the final weekend of July is chock full of car events plus some cruises.

CAR MEETS:

• Thursday has three events.

Kim’s Donuts & Tea House is where the weekend starts.
  • The day starts around 8 a.m. at Kim’s Donut and Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. Highway 395 North in Gardnerville.
One yummy cruise on a hot day is the Thursday Cruznite.
  • If you like ice cream the Thursday Cruznite starts at 4 p.m. as people head for the Chilcoot Frosty & Goodwins General Store. Highway 395 North, turn west on Highway 70, go over the hill to the turn off to Frenchman’s Lake.
In Carson City there is the Thursday Night Cruise.
  • Down in Carson City, from 5 until 7 p.m., there is the Thursday Night Cruise. Meeting place is the San Marcos Grill on East Winnie Lane.
One bike event is Thursday Night Thunder.
  • Thursday Night Thunder is Bike Night at Pinocchio’s Restaurant. Location is 5995 South Virginia Street in Reno.

• Friday evening features two cruises and a car meet.

This week’s ride goes around Washoe Lake then returns to Reno.
  • Reno Bike Community meets, starting after 6 p.m., at the Maverik Station at the corner of Sutro and North McCarran. Then it’s kickstands up around 7 p.m. goes around Washoe Lake and back to Reno.
Old Slammers of Reno meets at the Northtowne parking lot then goes for their weekly cruise.
  • Old Slammers of Reno meets, around 6:30 at the Northtowne Parking lot then their cruise has a 7 p.m. starting time.
Friday has Lowrider Cruise Nights.
  • Tacos Tijuana as a Low Rider Cruise night from 5 until 10 p.m. and they have raffle prizes and more. Location is 2201 Prater Way in Sparks.
Friday at 6:30 is the Friday meet for Carson Cars & Coffee.

– Carson Cars & Coffee meets at 6:30 by the Dutch Bros coffee stand near the Carson Mall.

• Saturday is a marathon with many things to choose from.

Incline Cars & Coffee starts Saturday.
  • Cars  & Coffee Incline Village gets the day started at 8 a.m. with a meet. Location is 907 Tahoe Blvd.
The Cave Swap Meet is in Fallon.
  • To the east The Cave Swap Meet starts at 8 a.m. in Fallon. Location is 1822 Grimes Street.
McHoppers in Fernley is where the Patriot Car Show is.
  • At 9 a.m. it’s the American Wheels Patriot Car Show. Location is McHoppers in Fernley.
The Kind of Reno Car Show also happens Saturday morning.
  • Here in Reno at 9 a.m. it’s the King of Reno Car Show. Custom Cars, Bikes, a Live DJ and Food Trucks. Location is Mastroianni Drive in Reno.
Northern Nevada Muscle has a cruise to Pyramid Lake and back to Fernley.
  • Northern Nevada Muscle, starting at 10 a.m. has a Pyramid Lake Cruise. Meeting place is by the Burger King at 9700 Pyramid Way. The cruise ends at the Love’s Gas Station in Fernley.
Need2Speed is hosting another Kars & Karts show.
  • Starting at noon is the next Kars & Karts Car Meet & Patio Party. It’s at Need2Speed and the location is 2863 Northtowne Lane, suite 4000.
Good benefit is the Bikers Against Child Abuse function.
  • Then at 2 p.m. Bikers against Child Abuse is hosting the 8th Annual Summer Bash. Location is 400 South Rock Blvd in Sparks.
Wide OpenRallies has Rev ‘N Roast at by the J Casino at the Glow Plaza..
  • Wide Open Rallies presents REV ‘N ROAST, the ultimate Supecar Party. Location is the Glow Plaza, at the J Resort, and 6 p.m. is the start time. 
It’s a Ladies Night Car Meet at Sierra Pink Automotive.
  • Also starting at 6 p.m. it’s Ladies Night Car Meet at Sierra Pink. Location is 101 Keitzke Lane, on the corner with Vassar. This is a woman owned shop and she works on cars.
High Sierra Power Sports hosts Scoop The Loop in Carson City.
  • Down in Carson City, registration is at 5:30, it Scoop the Loop Cruise Night. Starts at 3917 North Carson Street and ends at Bully’s Sports Bar & Grill at 3530 North Carson Street.
Reno Cars & Classics has a meet this Saturday.
  • Reno Cars & Classics meets at the Sonic on South Virginia. It’s next to the 5 Minute Oil Change and 6 p.m. is the start time.
Pizza Baron has another cruise night this Satuxday.
  • Pizza Baron has Saturday Cruise Nights with 6 p.m. as the starting time. All makes and models are welcome and the location is 1155 West 4th Street in Reno.
Saturday is the second meet for Carson Cars & Coffee.
  • Carson Cars & Coffee has its usual 6:30 Saturday meet at the Dutch Bros Coffee Stand at the south end of town.

• Sunday is an easy day with only three events.

Sparks Cars & Coffee has its second meet of the month on Sunday.
  • Sparks Cars & Coffee meets at 10 a.m. by the Starbucks on Disc Drive. There is usually a pretty good turn out at these meets.
Northern Nevada Classics hosts the second Brunch N’ Classics this Sunday.
  • Sunday is the grand finale for this Brunch N’ Classics Cruise In. Host is Northern Nevada Classics, start time is 10 a.m. and location is the west parking lot at Baldini’s Casino in Sparks.
Sunday ends with th Modelo Cruise In. Great way to end the weekend.
  • The day ends with Modelo Sunday’s Cruise in and Kick Back. Starts at 5 p.m. and location is 195 W. Plumb Lane.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

Saturday’s race has been canceled at Diamond Mountain Speedway.
  • First off all, due to the fire up north Diamond Mountain has canceled the scheduled race for Saturday. The fairgrounds in Susanville is being use to stage fire fighting equipment
Racing is this Friday and Saturday night at Battle Mountain Raceway.
  • To the east Battle Mountain Raceway has two nights of racing this Friday and Saturday.

RACNG & PRACTICE (MOTOCROSS):

Rep Racing has a busy weekend and this time the Sandbox MX has Sunday practice.

• REP RACING MX has a busy schedule this weekend. Riverfront MX has practice and a Ride Day Scheduled while PC MX has practice Saturday and Sunday.

  • The Sandbox MX is going again and has practice Sunday from 8 until 1 p.m. Be sure to register at www.repracingmx.com.
MMX Racing has practice this weekend.

• MMX Racing has practice on the Main, Sand and Kids tracks from 8 until 1 Saturday and from 8 until 2 on Sunday. The Vintage track is closed this weekend.

It’s a busy weekend with two races plus practice at E-Street MX Park.

• E Street MX Park is busy this weekend. Friday is Round 2 of the Friday Night Races. Saturday has race practice on the Main while there is regular practice, from 8 until 1, on the Sand and Kid’s tracks’

E Street MX Park hosts the next round of the Summer Sundayz series.
  • Sunday is when Round 4 of the P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series happens.

RACING (NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL):

Here is this weekend’s NASCAR schedule.

• This weekend the NASCAR series are at Indianapolis. And as expected their events are behind pay walls. Here is this week’s schedules and remember they have highlights of these events on www.youtube.com.

• Thursday at 7:30 a.m. Apple TV has F1 Weekend Warm-up. Then at 3 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hours followed at 3:30 by Speed.

• Friday starts early when Apple TV has the first two F-1 Practice sessions from Hungary. The first is at 4:10 a.m. while 7:40 a.m. is when the second is broadcast. 

  • At 7 p.m. Fox Sports 1 has Qualifying Show #2 from the NHRA Nationals at Kent, Washington. Then at 8 p.m. ROKU has the first Formula E race from Tokyo.

• Saturday starts at 3:10 a.m. when Apple TV has the third Formula 1 practice then at 6:25 they show qualifying.

This week the AMA Pro Motocross series is at Washougal.
  • Peacock comes on at 10 a.m. with Race Day Live followed at 1 with the AMA Pro Motocross race from Washougal.

– The day ends at 8 p.m. when ROKU airs the second Formula E race from Tokyo.

Formula 1 races the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend.

• Sunday begins at 4:50 a.m. with the Formula 1 race from Hungary. 

The NHRA ends its western swing at Kent Washington this weekend with the Northwest Nationals.
  • Fox Sports 1 at 11:30 has NHRA Qualifying Show #2 then at 1 p.m. Fox has the finals from the Northwest Nationals.

• This week’s Bike Night at PJ&CO on Wednesday was special as young riders from the Moto Mouth Mini Team were on hand.

The Moto Mouth Mini Team was part of this week’s Bike Night.

There were raffle prizes, donated by Reno Motor Sports and Big Valley Honda was also there. The youngsters were signing autographs and selling tickets.

There were all sizes and types of bikes, plus raffle prizes.

In addition to the small bikes the youngsters race there were a bunch of street bikes on display.

OTHER RACING NEWS

Wanted to give a head’s up about this event that will honor both of these people.

• I wanted to give an heads up about a celebration of life for two members of the Old Slammers & Vdub. They perished in a accident in Dayton a couple of weeks ago.  This gathering is where their family and friends are going to honor their memory.

MAG Auction may still need volunteer drivers at their auction.

• I believe MAG Auctions may still be looking for volunteer drivers during Hot August Nights. Here’s an opportunity the drive some classic cars. If interested please call the number listed.

This weekend is when the Elko Trailfest begins.

• This weekend is when the Elko Trail Fest happens. It’s going to be a full day ride for those out there.
