RENO, NV (July 25) — This weekend’s summer weather set the stage for several car meets. Sadly this report only covers four of them.
• Need2Speed had another of its Kars & Karts meets at the Northtowne shopping area.
The heat of the day probably kept the turn out a bit lighter than normal but there were plenty of cars to see.
Inside the patio there were several bikes on display as well as cars for people to look at.
Over in the vendor area, close to where one could order a hot dog or dink, there was plenty of miniature cars as well as a selection of Hot Wheels cars on display.
Some put stickers on their cars or decals on the windows of their cars. One person had a large collection of sticker on their car’s dashboard.
• Later that afternoon Wide Open Rallies held its Ultimate Supercar Party at the J Casino. It was called RevnRoast, the ultimate supercarshow.
Running the function was Greg Betonte from Wide Open Rallies.
“We live in Reno and this is where the headquarters are but, for instances, we do one in the spring and one in the fall, when the kids are in school so we don’t have RV’s and stuff on the roads we go on.
This spring the first rally was at Porsche Marin and it started with a kick off party. He added Global Hi-Tech Films is a sponsor that makes paint protection as well as windshield coverings that everyone at the rally got.
The next day, after a driver’s meeting 20 drivers took off.
“Everybody has a radio, we have a sweep car so we travel altogether. I’ve got an insane inventory of roads people travel on all the way up to Oregon.”
He added the next rally happens on August 26 and has an over night stay in Ashland. The sponsor is Adoge Road Winery and the owner has been with teams that won both the 24 Hours of Daytona as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Asked about RevnRoast he said. “This is a one off event. It was born out the problems with Cars & Coffee that have had with idiots that aren’t respecting the parking lot they are using. So we decided let’s do something that includes everything you’re not allowed to do at a Cars & Coffee.
“So we got a bunch of special cars, we’ve got a DJ and when the lights go dark and it gets dark we’re going to have a demonstration with a motorcycle opening the show doing burn outs and everything in front of the stage. That’s followed by a Lamborghini GT 3RS, and a Lamborghini STS and it’s going to be a donut competition for $1,000 dollars.”
There were many cars in the display area. Two of them were American Classics. A Corvette was parked next to a Cadillac.
Only a few feet away was a Lamborghini STO. Even had a RevnRoast decal on its doors.
There were even two Ferrari’s on display. One was yellow while the other the traditional red.
McLaren’s were also present. Four of them were lined up and they drew a lot of attention.
Close to the entrance was a rare Bricklin SV1. The owner said only a few thousand were ever made.
• Sunday began with Sparks Cars & Coffee second meet of the month. While there were plenty of cars the turn out was a bit lighter than normal.
Over in one part was a long row of Corvettes. There were many models on display from front engine to mid-engine.
In the Classic category one owner brought their great looking VW Beetle. Even had a sunroof and the rear side windows would open a bit.
Not far away was a blue Mustang on display. It was a great looking car.

On the performance side there was a Cobra in the traditional U.S. Racing Colors, which is blue with white stripes.
Several General Motor cars were also parked next to each other.
A woman rider showed up and parked her BMW motorcycle next to the Lamborghini owned by Dave Ramsey.
She asked about the Lamborghini and in the conversation Ramsey offered to take her for a ride. After getting a glass of water she accepted and off they went for a short ride.
• That same day Northern Nevada Classics had another of their Brunch N’ Classics meet in the west parking lot of Baldini’s Casino.
As expected there were wonderful cars and trucks on display. One pair was a roadster, kind of like a T-Rod, parked next to a Ford Sedan that has an enhanced power plant.
Another car on display was a Ford Skyliner hard top. The poster said it was a garage find that has been restored and had its mechanicals upgraded.
Over on another row were a quartet or cars with placards telling their story.
Over on another row was another restored and enhanced car owned by Jesse Hamilton.
Asked about the car he said, “It’s a ’64 Impala SS, crate 350 motor, 3-speed automatic on the floor. It’s got a Blu tooth Stereo, custom paint job and a mural underneath the hood. It’s also got Flowmaster exhaust pipes on it.
“I’ve had it almost three years now and I had to got it in Bellingham, Washington. Went up there with an empty U-Haul trailer with my motorhome, drove 13 hours straight, bought the car an brought it back to Reno.
Asked how rides, he said, “Great, I love it. I’ve been up with it on the Mt. Rose Highway. I like going on cruises and going to cars with my buddies.”
• This coming week Hot August Nights begins so the area will be flooded with classic cars to see and watch cruise.
• This week Trucks & Tacos of Northern Nevada meets at 6:30 p.m. at Ana’s Taco Grill. Location is 1485 Geiger Grade.
OTHER RACING NEWS:
• There are three things happening Wednesday evening.
- Starting at 5 p.m. the Sparks A&W has its weekly Cruise Night. Location is 1311 Baring Blvd., across from Reed High School.
- PJ&CO, on South Wells just north of the round about, has its weekly Bike Night. Starts around 5 p.m. and features some great bikes to view, good people to meet as well as great food and drinks.
– Later, starting at 6:30 p.m. Crazy D’s Hot Chicken also has a Bike Night. Location is 3652 South Virginia Street in Reno.
• This weekend two motocross racers, originally from Gardnerville were competing half a world apart.
- Lux Turner races as a privateer in the 250 Class with the AMA Pro Motocross series. This week he was in Washougel, Washington. Lux was 14th in the first moto, 19th in the second and ended up 18th overall. Now the series takes a two-week break.
- His sister Lachlan is racing in Australia. This weekend she was at Conodall where she won both motos and the overall victory. She’s also the point’s leader for the series.
• For you that knew this couple or want to honor them, there will be a Celebration of Life for Boo & Jennifer Villanueva. It happens on Thursday, August 6th at the Carson City Community Center.
