RACING & CAR MEET PREVIEW: AUGUST 6 TO 9

RENO, NC (Aug. 6) — Yep it’s hot this week but there are to major events going on as well as other things as well.

• Hot August Nights is celebrating its 40^th anniversary with cruises, cars on display and entertainment. This has become our area’s largest tourist event. The full schedule can be found at www.hotaugustnights.net.

• The GSR is also holding alternative event, Street Heat from Wednesday through Saturday. Parking is free, gates open at 10 a.m. and the show is in the southwest parking lot.

CAR MEETS:

• There are also other things an three of them happen on Thursday. 

• Around 8 a.m. Kim’s Cruisers gets things going at Kim’s Donut and Tea House. Location is 1328 U.S. 395 North in Gardnerville.

• That evening, starting at 6 p.m. Pinocchio’s Bar & Grill hosts Thursday Night Thunder. Location is 5995 Soutrh Virginia Street in Reno.

• For many in the VW community that afternoon will be a somber time. Starting at 4:30 they gather at the Carson Community Center to celebrate the lives of Boo & Jennifer Villanueva. The couple perished during a crash in Dayton last month.

• There are several things happening on Friday.

• Brookdale Sparks, from 10 until 12:30 p.m. has a 50’s Sock Hop and Car Show. Location is 1900 East Prater Way in Sparks.

• At 5 p.m. Tacos Tijuana hosts Low Rider Cruise Night. Location is 2201 Prater Way in Sparks.

• The Reno Bike Community has its weekly ride. Meeting place is the Maverik station on the corner of Sutro and North McCarran. Meet up between 6 and 6:45 and at 7 p.m. its kick stands up.

• Not far away, starting at 6:30, the Old Slammers of Reno meet. Sometime after 7 they leave for the weekly cruise.

• Down in Carson City at 6:30 p.m. Carson Cars & Coffee meets by Dutch Bros. Coffee at 1231 South Carson Street.

• At 7 p.m. Untouchable Image and Huntsman Tavern host the 7^th Annual Highway Nights. All makes and models are welcome, the location is the Pyramid Park Shopping Center at 880 Holman Way in Sparks.

• There are five things happening on Saturday.

• The day gets going early, at 9 a.m., when Vintage Euro Cars & Coffee meets. Location is south of Doughboys Donuts at 57 Damonte Ranch Parkway.

• While not cars, Saturday and Sunday is when the Lake Tahoe Concours d’Elegance happens. Great wooden boat show and a whole lot cooler up there. It’s in Homewood but they never put the starting time so I’m guessing by noon each day.

• Over at Idllewild Park there is the Day in the Parque. Be sure to come early, parking is limited and I think it starts around 10.

• Down south Carson Cars & Coffee, at 6:30 p.m., is having a Saturday night meet at the Dutch Bros. Coffee. Location is 1231 South Carson Street.

• Finally after all the cruising had ended it’s time for the Pizza Barron Saturday Night Cruise. Starts after the last cruise ends. The location is 1155 West 4^th Street in Reno.

• Sunday has the biggest event in town, the annual Hot August Nights Parade on Virginia Street. Goes under the arch and the final awards are handed out they people pack up and return home

• Sparks Cars & Coffee meets, starting at 10 a.m., by the Starbucks on Disk Drive. It’s at the southern end of the Spanish Springs Valley.

• Generations & Gears is also having a car show. It begins at 10 a.m. and the location is 6215 Sharlands Avenue at the Summereset Senior Living facility.

• The POBOB Motorcycle Club is having a family friendly party on Sunday. Things start at noon and the location is 4600 North Virginia in Reno.

• After this hectic week it’s time to relax at the Modelo Sunday’s Cruise In Kickback. Starts at 5 p.m. and the location is 195 West Plumb Lane in Reno.

RACING (4-WHEEL):

• To the east Winnemucca Regional Raceway has racing Friday and Saturday nights. Gates open at 5 p.m. with a 7 p.m. start to racing.

• Up north in Susaville, Diamond Mountain Speedway has a Kick Cancer event. Racing Friday and Saturday, gates probably open around 5 p.m. with a 7 p.m. start to the racing.

• Rattlesnake Raceway is having a Test and Tune session on Saturday. Karts start at 5 p.m. while it 7ish for the big cars to start.

• Desert Park Raceway is taking a weekend break from Go Kart racing. The Minimoto series visits the track Saturday and Sunday so karts won’t be able to use the facility.

RACING & PRACTICE (Motocross):

• REP Racing posted their schedule for Riverfront MX and PC MX. One has a ride day Saturday but both tracks have practice.

• After that was posted it was altered. The Sandbox MX in Fernley has motocross practice from 8 until 1 p.m. Sunday. Then they will have practice for quads until around 3 p.m.

• E Street MX Park has a busy weekend. There is open practice from 8 until 1 p.m. on Sunday.

• On Saturday the next round of the E-Street SXS series happens. Here is the schedule for the day.

• MMX Racing also has a busy weekend with practice Saturday and Sunday. Saturday from 8 untilb1 they use the Sand and Kids tracks then Sunday, from 8 until 2 the Main is added to the mix.

• Friday is the final round of the Friday Night Under the Lights series. There are also prizes and raffles as well.

• Round 5 of the P.R.O. Motocross Summer Sundayz series is this weekend. It’s a double points event and AMP MX is the location.

RACING NATIONAL & INTERNATIONAL:

• Once again NASCAR and ARCA are behind pay walls. Here this that schedule but remember one can see highlights of the races on www.youtube.com.

• Thursday is when RACER TV at 2 p.m. has highlights from the Australian Supercars then at 3 p.m. they show the German DTM highlights.

• Fox Sports 1 at 3 p.m. airs Kevin Harvick’s Happy Hour

• This week the Indy Car series is at Portland and a 1:30 Fox Sports 2 has NXT practice #1 then at 2:30 Fox Sports 1 shows first Indy Car practice.

• Saturday stats at 7:55 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the MotoGP Sprint race from Silverstone in England.

• At noon Fox Sports 1 has Indy NXT qualifying from Portland at 4 p.m. the network shows Indy Car qualifying.

• Sunday starts early at 4:30 a.m. when Fox Sports 1 has the MotoGP Grand Prix from Silverstone.

• At 12:30 p.m. the USA network airs the NASCAR Cup race from Iowa Speedway. Then at 1 p.m. FOX has the Indy Car race from Portland.
